It's clear the Bruins need a makeover on the back-end. These two trades would accomplish that and then some. In fact, no team is better positioned to take advantage of the two remaining RFA snafus than Boston.

Both of these trades have been discussed and agreed to by fans on both sides a few times now, making it all the more plausible.

New Bs lineup:

Marchand-Bergeron-Backes
Heinen-Krejci-Pastrnak
Beleskey-Czarnik-Hayes
Moore-Nash-Acciari
Schaller

Chara-Trouba
Fowler-C. Miller
Liles-Carlo
Morrow, K. Miller (IR), McQuaid (IR)

Rask
Khudobin

Trouba is seeking $5.5 million per long term so Krug would help there, But Spooner makes about $925,000 or so and adding Fowler for $4 million doubt the Bs have the cap space for both without sending another expensive piece out.

If the Jets are going to pay 5.25m to a defenseman, why not give that money to Trouba?

Because he doesn't want to be in Winnipeg.

I doubt he prefers not playing or getting paid at all. Just because he signs, doesn't mean he'll stay there forever or even for the rest of the season. Signing and playing would actually help the Jets move him.

They've had zero contract talks because Trouba simply wants out.
Difficult to offer that then.

Bruins would have to be adding at least a decent piece to each of those deals to make them fair. They're not unreasonable starting points as a "centerpiece" necessarily, but the value isn't quite there on either imo.

The whole team needs a rebuild

And due to missing assets, it needs to be a rebuild through draft. Boston used to be a force. Now it's a shadow of what it was. Chara's decline is one of the reasons.

They need to dump everything valuable over 25 years old for picks (and prospects), and go to perennial suck mode. Edmonton style.

If Anaheim traded Fowler for Spooner their team would become so much worse. It really won't happen unless its for an established winger who scores 60 every season automatically.

For the umpteenth time, Fowler has nothing to do with Anaheim's cap space. He is their BEST contract. And your best contract is the last person you trade for cap relief on a cup contender. He will not be moving unless its a Larsson for Hall caliber deal. A very good player must be coming back. No offense to Spooner, but he isn't close to Fowler in value.

Why are 99% of Ducks fans okay with Spooner + B prospect for Fowler than? Because Spooner is signed for 925k while providing strong 2nd line numbers. Established winger who is always scoring 60? There were 21 left and right wingers in whole NHL last year who scored 60+. So not every team in the league has even 1 first line winger who scored 60pts, and you think they are a lot of them? You are not getting anywhere close like Hall for Fowler because he is signed only for 2 years and has no #1 potential and you know it.
