Proposal: Fix Detroit’s depth!

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I never felt like the pieces were fully there for some of the UFA singings they made to compliment the team. It seems like all it did was slightly bump them from having a better lotto chance, but not enough to be viewed as contenders.
exactly . reason being is that no matter what ufa they added they werent going to become contenders til the young recently , yzerman era , prospects are ready . so a gm feathers the gas pedal by not making big ufa signings til the window opens . big ufa signings thast would do nothing but worsen a teams draft positiion thusly costing team in the long run just to get in to get crushed . does anybody on this website understand how building an nhl club works ?????????????

Honestly, I wouldn’t hate this. Kane will need replacing sometime soon and he’d be a solid 2W option.
DeBrincat - Kasper -Barzal could be fun to watch.

I’m guessing it would take a 1st to get him though. With the value of the wings 2025 1st I’d want something else coming back. Maybe a bottom pair D and some salary in the form of Compher going the other way. Compher seems like a Lou Lam kind of player.
That’s about as bad as offering Mayfield, the Isles 2025 1st and Cizikas for Larkin.

First things first, they need to cut the fat from their roster. I’m talking trades and buyouts, compher needs to be traded, tarasenko buyout, and bury holl in the AHL, see if you can get anything at all for Chiarot. Trade Berggren for whatever you can get. Bring Kane back if he’s willing to take a pay cut (too injured to be making what he is). Then they need to look at adding a top 4 d. Whether that be someone like gavrikov in FA or making a trade. I would firmly have debrincat up in a potential trade if we got a great top 4 d prospect back. Maybe marchment, bichsel an 2nd and a cap dump for debrincat? That’s just off the top speculation, but they need to try and get a top 4 defenseman. Outside of that they need to get bigger and add a physical winger, and then bring rookies up, ASP should do wonders for their puck movement on the second pair.

The biggest issue is they have mediocre to bad players playing in spots that are way above their skill level. Chiarot is closer to being out of the league than being a top pair defenseman. They need to get their current players into spots where they can actually succeed. And then the rest need to go.

Yzerman has been miserable at evaluating NHL players so until he figures that out, they will never improve their depth. He's been fine at drafting high at least.

His plan is obviously to have their depth filled in by our stacked prospect pool. The debate is whether that will be good enough or not. IMO it’s truly a sink or swim decision for his tenure as a GM as it carries a ton of risk.

Flyers have those assets in spades.

How about a deal around York (top pair D) + a later 1st for DET's 1st + salary if needed?

I'm pretty sure deals for Tippett (top 6 F), Cates (middle 6 C), Zemula (bottom pair D), Risto (Top 4 D), Brink (Middle 6 F, can slide up and down lineup) can be made.

For the pick, I think the Flyers would target Jake O'Brien if he's still around.
I don't hate risto and tippett in a bigger deal. Have no idea what flyers would want or what our equals would be going back, but I'd love to get rid of any of these players:

Tank, holl, chiarot, gustaffson, berggren, for this deal. Fully transparent, don't know much about york, so because of my ignorance I'll pass (unless you want to share more).

tank+chiarot+berggren

for

risto+tippett

Honest opinion if you could, who adds/deletes? To give short context, tank just doesn't fit our system(s) it seems, I don't think he has lost anything, I honestly think it's just us. Berggren is a top 6 winger with pure playmaking ability and can let go a pretty good shot. He just never gets the opportunity on our team (right now, I'd love to put him up on first line with raymond and larkin to show it off a bit). I just don't like chiarot and his perceived attitude (in my eyes).

Risto would probably be second line d for us on right side after seider. Tippett I could see helping us formulate a third scoring line depending on who mclellan puts there.

I don't think Flyers would want players back in this instance. Berggren seems like a RW (Flyers are already loaded at RW, they want to unload them), but is fairly interesting.

The rest are dumps (which are fine), but I think the asset we'd want is that pick.

York is a 24 year old top pair d-man who plays defense really well - he has offensive upside, but it's questionable how much. Him and Sanheim have some of the best advanced metrics in the league, but Torts has made him the latest example. He's solid; not big, but would be a really good complement to a guy like Seider to form a top pair anchor for years.

Risto would be great to lead a 2nd pair. Tippett is more than a 3rd line W - you need to remember, Flyers do not have a single C that's better than a 3C. They also have the the worst powerplay of the last 3 years - like so bad, they haven't scored a PPG in March.

All offensive numbers on the Flyers are quite suppressed - every single player will produce more outside of this organization.

I think we'd be fine taking salary back - but we'd want that 10-15 pick in addition to our potential top 5 to solidify our future C depth, IMO. We don't want players back - we have prospects we want to start integrating.

Just my opinion.

The wings biggest failings this year can be attributed to coaching (Lalonde) and roster depth. The 3rd and 4th lines, and the 4-6 D-men have been hot garbage.

On the table; 2025 and 2026 2nd round picks and later.
Talbot, Mrazek, Copp, Compher, Holl, Tarasenko, Gustafsson, Chiarot, Rasmussen, Berggren, Wallinder, Buium, Tuomisto

I realize these aren’t worth much, and collectively have been trash this year (especially Compher, Tank, Holl and Gus). A team might find use for one of them on their team, though.

Biggest needs; a legit #3/4 D, a 3rd line winger that can slot up a line and is good for 40ish points, and 2 #5 defensemen that can make a solid 3rd pair.

Who would you move picks and players for to upgrade Detroit’s terrible depth this season?
Why would Yzerman trade his bois

Yeah, I agree. I think he would like to stay in LA, but this is his money contract. He will most likely chase the bucks.
Yep can’t blame him this is his one chance to grab a big bag and choose where he goes. I fear Blake overpaying to keep him as we have nothing in the system. If he walks we will need to trade for a replacement.

I think Kaprizov would fit well with this Detroit team. Do the Red Wings have the cap space to sign him?

Just Imagine:

Raymond - Larkin - Kaprizov
DeBrincat - Kasper - Kane

Thats a scary top6 and they've got some talented forward prospects as well.

So,the recap: Soderblom has a slightly better start to his career than Hudler. Hudler's career peaks as a 1st line player in Calgary.

What's the point you were trying to make again when you compared Soderblom and Hudler?
Soderblom cant even put up top 6 numbers in the AHL. Hes no where near hudler.
