Thibault was fed to the wolves when at 20 he had to replace Patrick Roy in his prime. And he was actually pretty good in Montréal, just nothing short of miracles was going to be enough in that situation.

Thibault started off well, but by 1997/1998, he was splitting time with Andy moog, and moog was their guy in the playoffs too.

After that, I think the writing was on the wall, and he was part of a trade that brought Jeff Hackett to montreal, who was actually very good for montreal in a dark time.
