I know, I know, most were not but some were getting ahead of themselves.

This is a rookies first impressions thread a week into the season. There's no impressions in here that aren't premature, whether or not they prove to be accurate

Peterka looks great and effective in all areas, including the scoreboard.

Quinn has had a rough start. Scratched last game but will get some more games soon. He just hasn’t had any impact so far and looks to be pretty weak on the puck.

Power has been meh. His passing looks accurate and crisp but he’s still clearly learning to adapt to the pace of the game and when he can take risks on the ice. Starting to show a bit more offense in the game last night.

Jones doesn't qualify. He played 12 games last year and 10 games the year before.

Kravtsov is a rookie though. He played 20 games 2 seasons ago and none last year.

To be considered a rookie, a player must not have played in more than 25 NHL games in any preceding seasons, nor in six or more NHL games in each of any two preceding seasons. Any player at least 26 years of age (by September 15th of that season) is not considered a rookie.

Sanderson has been Ottawa’s best defender early in the season.

Pinto it’s same old, same old. Exactly like any Sens fan has been preaching about for years.

Mark Kastelic has been phenomenal, hits anything he sees, always going 100 miles an hour. He‘s like is Chris Neil and Zack Smith had a baby. Love this player.

As mentioned above, Guhle has been a revelation. Most fans thought he had second pair potential with maybe if everything goes great, he could be first pair. But still unlikely…

After four games, he’s surpassed all expectations.
I was one of them. I knew he was going to probably be a player, but he's looked way quicker and more confident than I expected. He must have put in a ton of work during his shortened summer because his skating has significantly improved, especially his first step and overall footspeed.

Happy to be proven wrong when young players exceed my expectations.

Holtz keeps getting benched because Ruff is a moron
Ruff is a moron, but Holtz hasn't exactly forced Ruff's hand. With Bratt, Palat, Mercer, and Sharangovich, there's not a ton of space for him in the top 6. I'm not even sure I would play him over Zetterlund or Boqvist, who have both been healthy scratches despite being much more productive in their NHL careers than Holtz to date.

Like, I see no reason in scratching Zetterlund to play Holtz.

3 games in. For the Islanders.

Robin Salo- had a bad first game for the isles but the next 2 games were much better. He’s playing on the 3rd pair along Scott Mayfield. Can skate well and has really good offensive instincts. Just will need to continue to play and get more comfortable. Looks like he can become a 2nd pair defenseman that plays the PP2 and possibly PK if all goes well.

This pretty much nails it.

Peterka looks fast and confident. Quinn is hesitant, overly concerned about making a mistake.

Power looked way more comfy against the Oilers last night. Biggest concern is ill-advised pinching, but it's not just him.

LA Clarke looks very promising , showing High Hockey IQ , and very good speed ( might be the fastest Dman in LA ) pairing him with a defensive Dman lets him use his offensive skill , should play whole season in LA not just 9 game. future #1 potential ( still only 19 ).

Rangers - Kravtsov played like 1 min into the season and got hurt. Believe when he returns, will lose his Top 6 spot to Kakko and Laf who have both looked very good.

Ducks - McTavish has looked very good, has been one of the few bright spots to a miserable start for Anaheim. Regenda has also been good as well. Regenda played hard in preseason to earn a spot, and he is continuing his good play into the regular season.
