I don't know about that. I get the player wasn't looking in the direction he was going....but that's not necessarily abnormal. It's not a keep your head up thing. Keep your head up is something you yell at guys who are looking down at the puck, looking at the ice....you need to know where you are going, who is coming, etc. He had his head up here, he was just following where the puck was going so he could react. There should have been no expectation of getting hit there, so he shouldn't have needed to turn and see what was coming from the other direction.

This makes no sense. So if a guy is standing 6 feet from the board and gets nailed from behind, head first into the boards, it's not dirty because the guy has the opportunity to turn his head around to see what is coming?
Getting nailed from behind would be dirty, how can you see behind you? Physically having to move your body to see someone coming would constitute a dirty hit.

All he had to do was turn his head, that’s still within his field of view, to me a blindside hit would be when a player needs to turn or pivot to see it coming. How overmen do we see a big hit and say “keep your head up!” Are those also dirty hits?
It was still out of his view completely and well after the puck was dumped in. Yes he could have turned his head but he was also going in a completely different direction. So should guys have to constantly look behind them and in blind spots when they don’t have the puck to avoid hits from the opposing team or should there be some unwritten code not to throw a hit like that because it’s not something you’d want in return?

Wow does this site suck from a mobile phone.

People are arguing that a blindside check on a player who was ineligible to be hit wasn't dirty.

Yes, I'd say hockey is officially back.

Yup. Depends on our own definition of “dirty”. Late, in itself, isn’t dirty imo.
Cheap, in that he went out of his way to make contact well after the recipient released the puck, but not dirty because of where he made contact and his feet stayed on the ice.

Note 1: A blindside hit will be defined as an 'open-ice body check that is delivered from an angle of approach outside a 90° peripheral point of view of a vulnerable opponent, whether or not the player has the puck.

Othmann is approaching in the direction Wotherspoon is facing. That’s on Witherspoon for turning without recognizing who’s coming at him, directly in front of him.

Look at Wotherspoon’s shoulders and hips. They’re in a completely different direction than his feet are. His feet may be at Othmann but the rest of his body is turned in the direction he chipped the puck into, not across the blue line.

The Big Smoke (unfortunately)
Gonna be a long year if that somewhat/slightly/marginally/pretty late hit in the first preseason game is deemed threadworthy. But as someone else said, Parker addressed it himself so all good. Get ready boys because the p***ycat Bruins are a thing of the past and the return of the Big Bad Bruins (hopefully!) will be glorious 😁
