What you're saying is basically quit on the season if they don't fire the goalie coach. It isn't gonna happen.

Trading for a goalie is at least a possibility and the bar for being better than 72nd worst in the league for GSAA is very low.
Again, basically every goalie has turned to mush under Schwartz. Why is the next one any different? Firing him at least allows you the opportunity to actually conduct a search wider than "Were they the goalie coach for the Oil Kings?"

If nothing else it sends a message to the rest of the team and staff that failure will not be tolerated.

Because not every goalie here has fizzled within 1 year.

Talbot had multiple good years, so did Smith.

Seeing as how we have a window of like a few years, who really gives as shit about 2-3 years from now, we'll worry about that when we get there. We need to maximize the immediate window.

Smith blatantly IGNORED Schwartz. What does that tell you?

And again as I've stated, Talbot got progressively worse every year. His final year here was abysmal.

I don't even understand why Talbot is part of this conversation. He's not coming here, period.

It tells me he sucks, but Talbot is old now too, what exactly does he need to listen to Schwartz for?

Talbot didn't get progressively worse either, his first year here was .917, then it went up to .919 and higher in the playoffs to .924.

Why do people think 16-17 was Talbot's first year here? It wasn't, we got him the day after we drafted McDavid, that's 2015, not 2016.

Go check Talbot's stats the last two playoffs. And spare me the "McDavid/Draisatl" nonsense when Silovs, Oettinger and Bobrovsky seemed to do just fine. His last "good" playoffs was in 2021 and even then the Stars beat him like a rented mule before they became the powerhouse they are today.

He did not ignore him. I have even asked Gregor in person. THis was a different type of coach. More about non goalie mechanics. He has said the same on Twitter as well.

Sounds like Gregor has no idea what he's talking about.

Francillia's coaching is basically all goaltending mechanics. He pretty much rebuilt Smith to stop leaning, falling and swimming around in the crease.

So how does a goalie coach work exactly?

In Van the new guy has made Silovs bad but Lankinen good?

Or how about Wash? Lilgren was a beast last year but now his goalie coach decided to sabotage him and made Thompson goid instead?

Kinda weird how a goalie coach can be effective and ineffective simultaneously. No?

He only played 1 game in the 2022 playoffs so that's virtually irrelevant.

In our series, Connor and Leon on top of shredding most goalies (go ask Oeteniger, Markstrom, even Bobrovsky went from a Conn Smythe lock at game 3 to having his numbers crater the next 3 games) is tough for any goalie but Connor and Leon also know Cam inside/out. That's a very specific kind of situation that isn't going to apply when Talbot plays anyone else.

No one else has a McDavid or Draisaitl except us who know Talbot inside/out because they played 4 years together.

Do those teams hire goalie coaches from their local WHL team?

He still sucked at the end of the day. If Skinner put up a >5 GAA in any series you'd tear a strip off him.

Skinner doesn't have a .915 career in the playoffs, nor did he have a playoffs where he was better than McDavid and Draisaitl like Talbot did, nor is he sitting no.3 in the NHL in save percentage right now.

Skinner is .894 in the playoffs, Talbot even with the series where McDavid/Drai took advantage of him is still .915 ... that's night and day difference. We win the Cup last year with .915.

If Skinner wants to have the same benefit of the doubt, the can go do the same things, until then, no.

Cam Talbot has never (regardless of goaltending coach) had Dan Cloutier-esque numbers through multiple playoff rounds where he was the starter. Skinner did that.

You're right, he had Cloutier-esque numbers through the first round last year and let his team down. Much better. And his numbers were far, far worse than any other goalie the Oilers faced. He. Sucked. He was worse than David Rittich for Pete's sake.

If Talbot couldn't handle the Oilers do you think he would've fared better against the Stars and Panthers?

You really gonna keep arguing this guy:

Currently: 5th best in the NHL for save percentage, no.2 in the NHL for GSAA above Connor Helleybuck

Career .915 save percentage in the playoffs

Is worse than Stuart Skinner

Currently: 46th best in the NHL for save percentage, 72nd worst (out of 74 ranked goalies) in the NHL for GSAA

Career: .894 in the playoffs

?

If that's the hill you want to die on, go right ahead.

You keep arguing about Talbot's stats from several years ago. I don't see how they're relevant at this point in time. And as I keep saying, Talbot got progressively worse when he was here. I can't imagine why that was...

If you're going to focus on one-year segments to make an disingenuous argument, sure, do that.

I think regardless who we want for our goalie, Schwartz has to go. Mike Smith hired his own goalie to work with, Jack Campbell worked with Manny Legace to try to help his goaltending, and he made a huge guy in Koskinen look smaller in net. What's even more annoying is witnessing Pickard or Skinner giving up the 1st goal on the 1st shot very similar to Koskinen and Talbot. I don't understand why every goalie I've watched has the same issues especially by playing smaller in net. What's even more silly is how awful Tristan Jarry aka his golden child has gotten. This organization has turfed coaches, gms, and etc while this incompetent asshole still remains. You know the fanbase generally doesn't like the idiot when there were loud enough boobirds during the home opener introductions. Fire this dipshit already.

Pretty sure Smith hired a trainer. Schwartz was still his GC

Talbot is having a great year THIS year. 5th best save percentage in the league. 2nd best GSAA in the league. What's Skinner doing?

We don't need Talbot to be good for 3 years. Even 8 months of better than Skinner play would be worth it.

We need to win now, anyone who can be brought on to this roster and make us better for this year and is obtainable for a reasonable price should be acquired. At any and every position.

I mean it's not like OilersNation didn't write about it or anything:

Will a New Partner Help Mike Smith?

Smith hired a goalie "consultant" who focuses on, among other things, "hand placement"- AKA stopping the habit of keeping the glove being too low, a trait we have seen out of Schwartz goalies the last decade. Why can't we just hire this guy? Oh wait, reasons.

Make sure you select the right 8 months though.:D:laugh:

Maybe Skinner should do the same but I get the feeling he does not have a high work ethic to begin with.
And he's fat, too, right?;)

He's overweight relative to most goalies in the NHL, yes. Sorry if pointing that offends some people, but it's the truth.

For a goalie that has poor lateral movement to begin with, I can't imagine being that heavy makes it better.

Yep pretty much. From Talbot, to Koskinen, and to Smith. I forgot which previous Oiler goalie said it, but they said after they left to a new team and trained with a different goalie coach, they were taught not to stay down and look smaller in net. Schwartz specialty = stay low and make yourself smaller and have a shitty glove to succeed!

Are you a main stream media reporter?

"Adam Francilia is not a goalie coach by title — he is a trainer who has worked with different NHL skaters — but is likely more known for his work with many NHL goalies. "

Guy is a trainer who works with several goalies throughout the offseason. Many goalies use him to train but have GCs during the season

Smith was the same.
