No he wasn't. His save percentage still ended up being a mediocre .905 and he couldn't even crack the top 35 GSAA even the team in front of him was the hottest team in the NHL for like 80% of the season.

The Oilers succeeded in spite of Skinner, not because of him.

And you know... Winning a playoffs series against Vancouver with the lowest save percentage recorded in the history of the league since 1975...

Skinner had a save percentage so low when we actually got to the finals that only Kelly Hrudey had ever been dragged to the finals with one that low since the NHL started to record the stat.

But we got to the Finals. Who cares about the rest of it. If the team had won game 7 would anyone seriously be pointing out Skinner's stats?

I don't think you will ever convince the minority of this lol. Skinner came along for the ride. i DREAM of the day we can upgrade on him if we want any chance at another run

YES

lol.

We would won that IN SPITE of him. I would not be happy with just 1 cup if we won

What do you mean who cares?

The NHL playoffs are a war of attrition. Imagine we sweep the Kings, beat the Canucks in 5 or 6, and then best the Stars in 5.

How many injuries do we avoid? Does that mean Draisaitl doesn't have a broken hand/wrist or broken ribs and can shoot? Does that mean Hyman is less banged up? Does that mean McDavid avoids the hip injury? That Kane gets enough rest that he can sit on the bench and play some effective shifts?

Even just one of those is potentially game breaking in game 7. And even outside of that - how much more juice do the boys just have in game 7 if you take away 4 of the 24 games they'd played in the last two months? That's a 17% reduction in work load/ wear and tear that's replaced with a 17% increased amount of time spent recovering. That's multiplicative; less fatigue and more recovery.

.... And that's not even considering that we probably don't go down 3-0 in the first place if Skinner wasn't so thoroughly outclassed by Bobrovsky in the first place.

Florida went to the Finals the previous year, they still seemed fine when the Finals rolled around despite playing one less game than we did in the playoffs.

As for the 3-0 deficit, hard to win when your team scores 4 goals in 3 games. The playoffs is a war of attrition, you're absolutely right. It's naive to simply think "Well we could've beaten this team in less games", especially the Dallas Stars who were probably the best team in the entire conference (and possibly the league) and favoured to win the series.

If Skinner was as bad as people claim he is, we don't even sniff the Finals. Dallas would've put us out of our misery.

What you DUDE dont seem to get is may the fact that a career NHL backup /AHL'e and a late 2nd rounder, extremely limited athletically goalie cant stop the puck is maybe cause they're just shitty and it not on the coach.
These other guys have had Schwartz when they were good. As well as other goalie coaches.
I guess nuance is lost on you BRO.
Lol, because it’s just Skinner he coached…bro
