What's the purpose of firing DJ at this point? So maybe we get a dead cat bounce and finish 8th last instead of 6th last or something?

He's gone when the team is sold. This season is probably out of reach already. Is what it is.

because there are 67 games left in the season and we should have organizational standards.

This type of thinking is why we are stuck in mediocrity, you fire him because it's the right decision to make. Blatantly obvious.

You want to build a winning team start carrying yourself like a winning organization.

It's a very delicate situation.

This is a terrible take.

If you can start improving now, you start improving now. You don't go on to let a team get the snot beat out of them for 67 more games, demoralize the players and the fanbase.

Lets say it takes 25 games for the team to really understand and adopt a new system. I'd rather those growing pains happen now so next season we shoot out of the gate like a rocket and not struggle for 25 games next season.

The under appreciated thing about this lousy start is that there is now absolutely no stress involved in watching a Sens game. Win or lose -- doesn't really matter!

Great for my mental health!!

So, I gotta say I appreciate DJ's contribution in that regard.

Well I'm trying to be realistic.

You aren't going to bring in someone new from the outside because that creates an awkward situation amidst the ownership change. Whomever buys the team is going to want to pick a new GM and they are going to want to pick a new coach.

So you are left with an internal promotion to interim HC. I just don't see a drastic improvement happening after that, other than the aforementioned dead cat bounce.

It's a tough spot to be in and I'm not seeing a good solution.

So Capuano gets to be interim HC and everything changes for the better?

The house needs to be completely swept clean and that won't happen before the team is sold.

On every coaching change needs to be made in bad blood. Sometimes you just have to get to the next level

Are there any recent examples of new ownership huying a team and immediately purging the front office and/or coaching staff to install their hand picked favourites?

I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but people seem to be talking like it's an inevitability and I'm not sure that's always the case.

Or no reason to watch at all. Which after buying seasons is crushing, definitely dont want to renew until Dorion and DJ are gone. Expensive commitment that has no hope, it sucks.

Probably wont be until the offseason.

Pretty sure that both PD and DJ have checked themselves out already. They don't give a flying eff anymore, they're both getting a severance package and a Kumbaya tape under the Christmas tree this year.

Remnants of the penny-pinching era that I am hopeful will soon be over. I'm surprised our arena never became the Dollarama Centre.

There will be more candidates available after the season ends.

I would not be surprised if Dorion cans DJ during the season to try to save himself. I hope the exec don’t let him hire a new coach on a long term contract. Dorion must go too and the sooner the better.

Teams just don't get sold very often.

I think Francis lasted a season as Carolina's GM after the ownership change?

I would imagine that context matters. The Senators have been a lottery team for 4 years running and that's set to continue this year. I don't think there's a lot of motivation to keep the current regime around other than cost-consciousness which hopefully is not going to be a prominent focus.

Well, you are just making a blanket assuming on who replaces him, but yes you fire him regardless because, again, you show you have NHL standards as a franchise.

If its an interim coach you give it to Mann imo

The house will be completely swept clean.

Sharks and Ducks?
I was thinking two as well. Realistically a top 5 pick is pretty likely at this point considering how hard the teams schedule is. There is a good chance that this team is 7-13-1 by the end of the road trip. Atleast its a good year to be bad.

Looks like Trotz is ready to go. Doubt it ends up here with the ownership situation hanging in the air, but it answers some questions about his desire to return.
