A goal scorer with bad puck luck won't get DJ fired. But putting your goal scorer on your second powerplay unit and second line might.
In one goal games, he has cost them three games by my count. Ha has turned into Mike Fisher, an expert in shooting pucks in the chest and making sure he puts it in the outstretched glove. he has zero confidence

That’s a weird comment, since he leads the team in PP TOI.
As it should be. He had averaged 36 goals per 82 games in his career coming into Ottawa. Started the year on the second powerplay.

It's like Dave Cameron going with Matt O'Connor between the pipes in the 2015 home opener. Amateur hour coaching decisions.

Boudreau should be a new fly zone.

Sullivan would be handed a 5-6M deal by some team the day he got fired, incredible coach.

Berube would be interesting.
What about Julien as the HC and have Mann be his Associate Coach?

Sanderson is a year older than Werenski was, is used to playing 24-26 mins a night in college with heavy PK min, and there are other examples too, Provorov played 22 mins a night with 2:49 on the PK as a 20 yr old rookie, Heiskanen played 23 mins a night as a 19 yr old with 1:23 on the PK, Seider played 24 mins a night at 20 with 1:53 on the PK, no need to bubble wrap Sanderson.

I think it's reasonable to get him more time at 5v5, I've not yet seen a game where it's looked like he was overwhelmed by the mins he got, it would be different if he was struggling but the kid has arguably been our best defenceman.
I’m sure he could handle more minutes right now, my concern is how it affects him as the season wears on. He’s only played 29 and 27 games the last 2 seasons.

You don’t dictate any of the assistants to guys like Julien or Trotz. That’s done with less experienced coaches.

Oh no! I didn't mean it like that. Was thinking that if people are worried that Julien might be a little too...old thinking for the younger guys that Mann could help with that. Is one of his Assistant Coaches better? Maybe #3 three guy out of three assistants?

Team will go no where with him as our coach.

During pre-season we saw atrocious lack of system. 12 games in, more of the same.

We had a solid winning streak off the backs of everyone playing at their absolute best, even then, some of those games had horrific system displays and weak goals against from breakdown perspective.

We need a coach.

Even if they won tonight, they were badly out played through most of the game

How do you not have Pinto on the 4 on 3 PP when he's flying tonight? Unbelievable...

Best of luck elsewhere DJ

Can't take advantage of an easy schedule
Cant take advantage of a third-stringer in a must-win game
Can't take advantage of a full 4-on-3 powerplay to snap an 8 game losing streak
Can't take advantage of a powerplay full of good offensive players

This guy is not a winner. He has never won anywhere above junior hockey and is well on his way to his fourth straight bottom-10 finish. To make matters worse he pretty much ruined a core player before ever achieving a .500 record.

Every coach in NHL history with more then 20 games knows how to win
That is why they coach in the NHL/best hockey league in the world...as I've said in a previous thread in my opinion a coach can only do so much. At the end of the day it comes down to the players and their willingness. You don't hear coaches say that Crosby is a pain in the rear to coach, you hear the opposite and stuff like that is contagious in the locker room. Obviously it is not always the case but more often then not players which tend to be on the winning side of things are responsible pros. I am by no means saying that Ottawa has a problem but I am not around the team and I don't know how the overall vibe is. You put a group a young males in their early mid 20's that seem to jell well together into any scenario and you will most likely get a lot of laughs and goofing around and not a lot of seriousness. Common sense will most likely tell us its the coaches job to recognize it and fix but I think that is an adjustment the players need to make among them selves if they are serious about becoming a winning team; hence why good leadership is important .

DJ Smith is here because he was a cheap hire, that's it. I really can't imagine any other organization hiring this guy as their head coach and keeping him around for 4 years.
