They were playing meaningful games when they got to within 4 pts off a playoff spot with around 25 games remaining in the season. However, once Forsberg got hurt with Talbot already out there chances started to decline rapidly & losing 4 of the 5 game road trip & having to depend on their two AHL goalies has really killed their chances. But playing meaningful games in March & just missing the playoffs is where most I think thought they would be this yr including the so called experts.

They seemed to be charging hard so there was an air of meaningfulness about a game or two there. Losing the two veteran goalies sucked for sure but there isn't a goalie in the league that could have saved us the last 5 games. The odd man rushes, blown assignments, wide open guys in the slot. It's been disgraceful from top to bottom.

They got close to being right in the mix down the stretch and they choked. Shit the bed completely. While those games in early March were exciting, to me truly meaningful games are when the whole league is watching to see who's going to come through and win a big game. We are unlikely to have that in Ottawa this year.

If the players think they are meaningful, then that works for me, not what some outsiders think.

Labelling the goal as "meaningful games" left the door wide open for interpretation. Something tells me that was probably intentional on Dorion's part. Can't really call it a success or failure based on the ambiguous wording.

I looked at the power play and penalty kill for home and away. Away the PK goes up and the PP is in the basement. Home the PK is a bit bellow the average and the PP is up, but not much for the average. How much does home ice advantage really help? If we won three more road games our position would be better. I might not be looking at the numbers right though.

That's the reason some people are giving as to why we're a terrible 5 on 5 team this year, and worse than last year.
Goalies are a big part of the goals allowed, but we've been really up and down defensively too, some stretches we look ok to pretty good, other stretch we're awful. Health is part of that, young players not being consistent or struggling under pressure is another

It’s not really open for interpretation though. We already know what PD meant, he didn’t make an off hand comment, he mentioned it and expanded on it many many times. Why anyone would pretend it’s an ambiguous concept is strange.

We are sitting exactly where they hoped we would be. It’s disappointing that we just had a tough stretch here, but doesn’t change where we stared the month. The season isn’t over yet either.

Fan interpretation is meaningless. When you set unreasonable goals, you can expect unreasonable behaviour.

I interpreted as they will be in the bubble either in a wild card or close to it.

Now there are 6 other teams in the same spot and only 3 teams in the whole conference are not playing meaningful games. So was it a high expectation? Ask Alfie.

I think they just realized with where other Eastern conf Teams were in their competive cycle, playoff were really unlikely. The fact that Florida fell so much opened things back up but most people thought the Pens, Was, and Fla were close to locks, which left no room for NYI, NJD Ott, Clb, Buf or Det.

There were some surprises, Was devastated with injuries, and NJD making such a big leap shook things up, as did Fla struggling so a glimmer of hope opened up, but it would have been a lightning in a bottle situation for us to make it.

Ya the amount of teams bunched together and such a small pool of tanking teams sort of muddies the water on this for sure.

Detroit would probably look at their season as unsuccessful, and we spanked them hard, but we've pretty much accomplished the same thing this year.

For sure. It was a strange year in the division. I see the reasoning, I just think the wording used left a lot to interpretation and there's basically no opening to call it wrong unless they were basically at the bottom. Maybe that was a smart call. If he'd said playoffs or loftier, it'd be a Dorion meme factory quote.

DJ doesnt have this team ready

mindset needs to change
You are a professional. You should be ready. Just because he says it , it doesn’t mean he actually believes it, right? He is not going to throw his kids under the bus

What's DJ's current salary? When I google it, it says undisclosed. Not to dump on certain players, BUT....imagine the way 72 is playing now, having another D like Zub instead of Chabot and using the pay difference of about $4M (starting next year and then it goes up since Chabot will make $10 the year after) on a coach that can actually elevate this team.
About tree fiddy.

Sure, but DJ has to have some responsibility for something, right? Are we just going to keep making excuses for him and claim that he has role in anything, the HEAD coach?

It’s been 4 years, it’s just time to move on. He’s lasted here a lot longer than he would on any other team, due to several circumstances obviously (low expectations, ownership).

Of course he shares in the responsibility. I just don’t hear any for the players. It is pretty naive, this whole “we weren’t ready to play” shit that you and others gobble up.

I’m not saying that I am not averse to a new coach in the off season. I’m just saying that he is not the reason why the team is not achieving. We have a lot of cheaters on this team, and the next coach will have to deal with that without hurting their itty bitty feelings
