Konsta looked good in the first period. Had couple half chances. He has nifty hands and already solid skating for Liiga

Anton Lundell's brother Kasper ('04) have started season on U20 SM-sarja with 7 (1+6) points in 3 games.
Wow! That sounds really impressive! Does anyone who has been following him a lot and seen him really play, have a clear opinion what he is like as a player and what his potential could really be? If he would manage to be even over PPG in the A-juniors at that age, it would be pretty darn impressive.

I thought he was very unimpressive in what I watched at the Hlinka. Maybe a late round prospect. His last name is Lundell though, so people want to discuss him more.

Hlinka is still just one tournament, and at least many Finnish players who weren’t that impressive in that tournament, have been able to become good NHL class players. I was really looking more forward to comments about how he has looked for his whole season play for example last season.

I don’t see Hlinka generally as very meaningful, although I do understand that many North Americans believe that it’s already decisive for young player’s future. I just simply disagree with that. In some cases it even might be quite telling, but doing well in that tournament for sure isn’t a rule for career success.

Can someone tell me about Oskari Salminens progress? Starting the season with good numbers. So besides Kupari and upcoming Väisänen there is also a goalie from the city of Kotka.

Young Halttunen starting the season strong. Any reports from someone?
Kaskimäki tearing it up in the beginning.
Topi Niemelä seems to be the real deal. I´m so excited about him and his future. Fantastic player.
Koivunen? Two goals already. Is he a potential third liner for the WJC roster?

Poor Joni Ikonen with his darn injuries. Still, 4 assist in three games. I really hope he bounces back. Fine talent with a lot of finesse. Ilves fans, how does he look?

Behind Niemelä and Puutio then, is Heimosalmi the clear third or is Rafkin still competing hard?

The golden boy 'o Finland hockey - Joakim Kemell - in action yesterday in the game Pelicans vs Jyp (3-5) in Liiga.
Watch out for number 37 with the golden:nod:, best scorer, helmet. Easy to see:thumbu:.

Joakim Kemell, a boy among men:DD, is second(!) in points in Liiga with 6+3 = 9 right about now. Rather impressive.

Liiga

(go to videot!)

And if you think Liiga in Finland is rather ... poor. Then you think porno way wrong.

Finland Liiga-players can compete with the almighty Canaaaada in the Worldchampionships, yes: on top o' the sexy hockey world. And that rather only with Euro-players, easy too.

Did anyone watch the games? Any standouts?

There were 130 kids and I’d say standouts were around 10 kids… of course at this age it’s the big kids who rule and true talent is still largely hidden.

Standouts:

Goalies: Rimpinen, Riekki
Defencemen: Kiviharju
Forwards: Miettinen, Helenius, Saarelainen, Suoniemi, Hemming

Arguable list of course. A level of talent was very even at the whole camp and the standouts had the skating strength above others. It’s difficult to say yet from those under 65kg players who’s got it when they grow up.

One half of the U16 played Germany today, and as the scoreboard tells, there wasn't much resistance. A lot of players looked good, but I thought Helenius stood out the most, he was consistently dominant in both ends. Suoniemi was also noticeable.

The other half will play tomorrow, including Kiviharju.

I can agree on those Helenius and Suoniemi. Goalies (incl. Rimpinen) were not tested. Perhaps I would say Muhonen in defence stood out to me as well, and not only due to his massive size (193cm, 80+ kg).

Of the Pohjola camp standouts that I listed, the second half is first time on ice tonight: Miettinen, Saarelainen and Hemming as linemates, Kiviharju in defence.

Now it's 19 out of 6. Does anyone know if he was promoted to under 18? I think it's past time.

Watching him in Pohjola and vs Germany, Emil Hemming looked like a very low hockey IQ player to me. And he also was cut from the u16 national team vs Germany.

There probably is a reason he's not playing in u-18s.

After Pohjola camp he’s been raised to U18 squad and has looked sharp playing in the top line of a solid roster and scoring 4 pts in first 2 games.
