It's like 11pm on a weeknight, I don't blame them.
Also, blowouts become unentertaining for neutral fans. Close games keep the most people interested, generally speaking.

I tuned out of the Super Bowl this year after tuning in at half-time, seeing the score, watching the third quarter, and then found something better to do. No offense to Philadelphia fans, but having no dog in the fight makes it less fun.

Same with Morocco-Egypt for bronze medal at Paris 2024 men's soccer. Ended up 6-0, turned it off at 4.

If the Finn hadn't taken a penalty with two seconds left in the last period I doubt things would've ended this way. Seemed like Finland gave up after the 3-1 goal.

Isn’t the history just this?:

Close game for 40 mins and then the more talented team asserted themselves and won.

I mean, it was extremely close until a bad penalty call at the end of the 2nd and then a fluky deflection goal as soon as they came back from intermission. Finland unraveled for a few minutes after that, but the key to this game had little to do with talent asserting itself.
