That's not true at all.

Well as previously said, 95% of the casual viewers in Germany ( and I imagine in other european countries as well) have never watched an NHL game, dont really know NHL players and have no idea how much better NHL players are. It's also very hard for them to imagine that a World Championship does not feature the best players.
And even if they know all of this, it simply does not mean that much to them.

I think many north americans vastly overrate the importance of the NHL to european hockey

They aren't much better as is evident each year in this very tournament. But yeah enough for the OT for me.

What I meant by that is: obviously Draisaitl would be by far the best player for us Germans, but 90% of the viewers have never really seen him play so they have no idea how big the difference between a guy like Draisaitl or a guy like Plachta is

I'm sorry but how is that evident if the actual top players are playing in the Stanley Cup playoffs in the same time? Again, the rosters we would see on Best-on-best tournaments would be very different than what we see now.

But ok, I will shut up now.

That's too bad.

Does Draisaitl get a lot of endorsements in Germany?

That cross seam touch pass by Reichel was a thing of beauty, too bad no one got to the end of it

I can't remember ever seeing a commercial featuring Draisaitl

That is true for most european countries. But nhl is very popular in finland and propably in sweden aswell.

But it's not even about that. I would think that Olympics are overall one of the most, if not the most popular and viewed sport event in most countries. Winter olympics is even more popular in nordic countries.

I cant remember seeing him in an add, definitly not in a mainstream one.
There is the odd article about him when he wins stuff like the Hart. Lile he was a guest on a big german sports show once for example. But not really much.
Many casual viewers that show interest in the national team during tournaments and he gets lots of attention if he plays for the national team, but the NHL is fairly unpopular, even among hockey fans that go watch the DEL and such.

Endorsement deals for hockey players in Germany? lol. Nah, Nowitzki, F1 drivers (at least years ago) and football players, hardly anyone else getting endorsements.
So Germans really don't realize how good he is?

That's a shame but I assume the same thing would happen if there was a terrific Canadian soccer player. As we say in Canada, "No pucks, No bucks".

Also, Draisaitl is no Nowitzki when it comes to personality. He's quite reserved and "safe" in interviews sadly.
