WJC: Finland - Switzerland

Nyman, Väisänen and Pasche were the players of the period for me. So far things are going just like the Swiss team wants them to.

Kemell needs more ice time in my opinion.

Boring and sleepy 1st period.
If the game speed truly is this slow it will be hard to stay awake full 60 / 65 minutes.
Right now i don't see any difference compared to November's SM liiga game

'Can you please tell Switzerland it's not soccer'...

from the TSN intermission quoting Alex Tanguay and they just showed 5 Swiss guys skating backwards in the neutral zone.lol

Don't get me wrong.. they did great in exhibition and have kept finland to a 0-0 game so good for them!

I have thrown many a remote watching the Czechs lose to the Swiss.lol
Man can I relate to this. Losing to them not so much but them making it so very tough to get that victory, and usually on the back of that stand back defensive style and a goalie playing over his head, against us naturally.

Really bad first period from Finland. Can only go up from here.

I want to see Kemell playing.

They gave Canada a few real good runs with their NHL goalies and this exact system.

Having said that.. they did build a new generation of fantastic forwards (and Josi). I'm curious how they'd look in a best on best and if they'd stick to this soccer style or if they'd open up? I can't see a coach wanting guys like Hischier and Nino skating backwards at the opposing blue line all night.lol Hey Roman Josi, just dump it in!

I remember the one Skoda cup the Swiss are an absolute joy to watch with beautiful hockey.

Switzerland plays smart underdog hockey. Strong defense and diligent teamplay is how you win these kinds of games in tournaments.

I thought they were going to win the gold against sweden there a few years back at the skoda, that was a real good team all around.

At a best on best at the senior level they can play with anyone these days, they won't win the tournament or anything but they will give anyone a test, anyone.

Swiss hockey has 2 big flaws today...

1. No NHL goalie and none in the pipe. Hard to win without NHL goalies, even a Skoda (Finn's have done it but they defy all the rules.lol)

2. Since that generation boom, they haven't had many guys drafted into the NHL the last 3 or so. I think they had a draft with no one drafted.

So, today it looks good with Josi and Co. But I've seen this first hand, it catches up to you and it hurts. Reminds me of the Czechs around 2005 when it all fell apart.

That's the thing about them though, at least when they play Canada, even when they don't have an nhl or hotshot goalie they get a hotshot performance against us so many times when they play us. I call it the Canada curse, everyone wants to beat us so bad they play us so f***in hard and guys(the goalie usually being the worst offender) plays way over their head and has the day of his life.

I could just strangle them.
