According to YLE "teksti-tv" Niittymäki will start tomorrow. :handclap: :handclap:
I don't think this is a good idea. The time difference may be affecting his play. I think Westerlund should have chosen Norrena for the first game just be safe.

I think it is because I just don't have confidence with Norrena or Bäcksröm in net. And Switzerland isn't an easy opponent either.

Just my opinion.

Koivu has been hurt all year too (groin). He just came back three weeks ago or so and has not looked good. He's been getting frustrated and taking dumb penalties too. Not a good sign. His skating looks labored and his lateral movement (his strength) is gone for now.

Going with Niittymaki should be more about getting him acquainted with the Olympic conditions, not whether or not he's playing Switzerland or not. David Aebischer typically chokes when representing his country.

Heh..ummm...oh...Skip_per decided to go for a vacation to the Hawaji. My hero..

The Lions lines against Switzerland:

Niittymäki

Selänne - S. Koivu - Lehtinen
J.Jokinen - O.Jokinen - Peltonen
Laaksonen - Kapanen - Hentunen
Ruutu - M.Koivu - Nieminen
13.th man Hagman

Timonen - Numminen
Salo - Nummelin
Berg - Lydman
7th man Niemi

LET'S GO FINLAND! :yo:

Hopefully they won't play in the same line in all games. Otherwise there will be a lot of penalties.

I think they can behave and play for the team. I really like this gritty line and I'm sure other teams will have lots of bruises playing against them. Hagman will replace Nemo in some games.

Ruutu will smash the star players and have this smile after it :snide:
And this is Nemo's face all the time :D

Our team is still better than the World cup team, even without all the quitters ( and some real injured players). It proves Finland has depth. I agree with those who have realized that some of our average players often are reliable and solid on the national teams. Especially Aki Berg and Niklas Hagman, but Niko Kapanen should be mentioned too. :handclap:

Whats ironic is that Finland's real strength, the extreme depth of our goaltending somehow turned into the achilles heel of this team, Niittymäki might be an average NHL goalie, but mentally he will affect the whole team, they just won't feel secure with him (unless he gets a lucky start) and you just can't win if you don't have trust in your goalie. I feel so sorry for Koivu-Lehtinen-Selänne, cuz this will end with a fiasco.

I don't know about that.
to me Niittymäki is like Pasi Nurminen. He fights for the team and wants the result badly. Exceeding himself at times.
Sure he's not the best option (Kipper) but he's no diva. And since those guys are out, my selection would have been Nurminen (he's always done well for the national team) but his career unfortunately ended, so Niittymäki.

Niittymäki will give us a chance to win. If the rest of the team does their job, anything can happen. Heck we got to the bronze game in Nagano on the back of Myllys.

The way I see it, Finlands strenght is that we don't have any true superstars. By this I mean that while we do have a clear #1 line, no one single player is so much above others that they'd get cocky about it. Along with this, our lineup can hardly be called as all-star lineup.

What this basically means that in order for Finland to be competitive, we have to play together as a team and that's exactly the #1 strenght that Finland has always had.

Selänne's still a superstar in my book :handclap:
