According to what I just heard on Radio City, Laaksonen has been dropped due to injury and is replaced by Hagman. Also Niittymäki will be a day late from the tournament due to a storm or something (just turned the radio on when they said that) on the east coast USA, and it's unsure if he can make it for the first game.

Not Laaksonen but Miettinen

Coach Westerlund said that Finland will start with these lines:

Lehtinen-S.Koivu-Selänne
Peltonen-O.Jokinen-J.Jokinen
Laaksonen/Hagman-N.Kapanen-Hentunen
Laaksonen/Nieminen-M.Koivu-J.Ruutu

Timonen-Numminen
Nummelin-Salo
Lydman-Berg
Niemi

Niittymäki/Norrena
(Bäckström)

They better not give 3rd-line icetime to Hagman. He could be a good 4th-line energy player rotating with Nemo, the forth line isn't expected to score anyway.

We play Switzerland on Wednesday and it's not going to be an easy game for us. Hopefully Niittymäki will play that one.

According to the IIHF site Hagman has withdrawn also, replacement yet to be named.

:shakehead :help:

edit: the page says:

"February 13--TURIN, Italy -- Finland's woes continued today as Antti Mietinen of the Dallas Stars has withdrawn from the Olympics because of injury. The Finnish association is expected to announce that he will be replaced by NHL teammate Niklas Hagman."

Where did you read that Hagman has withdrawn?

They must have edited the article on the IIHF website in the last 15 min. I also tried the link about 20 minutes ago and it said that both Miets and Hagman were out. I guess the guy writing for the website screwed out and corrected his mistake later..

It was there earlier, I saw it too.. probably an erronous report that they fixed

There was an error in the original article. It said "Finland's woes continued today as Antti Mietinen and Niklas Hagman of the Dallas Stars have withdrawn from the Olympics because of injury. The replacements have yet to be announced" (or something along those lines...)

But it looks like it has been fixed.

What are we supposed to do with Hagman on the team? He's probably the most useless Finnish forward in the NHL. He can skate but can't do much else and can't score to save his life..

I think he usually plays pretty good for Finland. I'd rather have Miettinen on the team though.

Hagman out too?

"Dallas Stars forwards Antti Miettinen and Niklas Hagman of Finland both pulled out of the Winter Olympics on Monday."

Ok, it's time to get Salmelainen on the team. I'd personally take him over Kallio.

But I'm sure Erkka will choose Hahl.

False information on Hagman's part (Miettinen on the other hand has withdrawn). Hagman hasn't withdrawn and he is still going to Turin to play for Finland in the Olympics.

You're right he is. But he's also played great for the national team. You can say the same thing about Ville Nieminen and the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Hagman has been Finnish best forward many times during WC's. Few years ago actually was selected MVP of the tournament if you dont remember. He's great on international ice but cant score in NHL

Kiprusoff
Lehtonen
1. Niittymäki
Toivonen
2. Norrena
3. Bäckström

+ six more goalies started the season with NHL contracts but aren't valid options!
I still feel that Toivonen is way overrated. Maybe Jari Kurri shouldn't have p**sed off Vesa Toskala and taken Norrena over him as the first replacement, so that Vesa wouldn't have snubbed Kurri when he came calling. OOPS!

Nope! He's out. Injured his groin yesterday.

Actually Puff is reported to have bad groin injuries, but he keeps playing for his team every night and leads the dragon league in every goaltending cathegory.

They have been saying his groin would only act up on italian soil.

In a press conference puff read from a paper "This was my own decision". Reporters on the scene told that his GM was standing behind him in the conference and I quote "holding some sort of metallic tube with a handle against Puff's back".

Breaking news: Puff's little bro (and fellow dragon league goaltending star) Fluff has declined an invitation to Turin because he was "pissed that they offered the position to his brother first". Reports out of Finland say Urpo Ylönen is in his basement digging for his old hockey equipment and should be in Turin in time for Finland's first game tomorrow..
