Drinks for :

no Ninnymaa *cheers wildly*

Boos for:
Norrena - What on earth must Antero do?
Peltonen - his time is up
Hentunen - not worth being in at the expense of Jussi Jokinen.

For ****s sake, why do those god damn swiss tax-refugees always get their mandatory 2 spots on the team?? I can barely understand Peltonen but Hentunen instead of Nieminen, J. Jokinen or Hagman?? IDIOTS!

Agreed. Why the hell isn't J. Jokinen there!? Westerlund must go!!! :madfire: :shakehead :banghead: :propeller :thumbd: :soap:

Very questionable selections. :shakehead

I don't understand why Finland and Sweden continue to select the stool pigeons of the european elite leagues instead of the depth in the NHL they have now. No reason to not only not take Niittymaki, but to not have Toskala or Markkanen either, especially since we don't even know if Lehtonen will be completely healthy he hasn't even returned from injury.

I think it has been relatively clear that Niittymaki has been the second best Finnish goalie in the world this year.

I'm a big fan of Finland, but I wonder if people don't understand why they are consistently underdogs and end up suprising everyone when they do well and not even ice their best team.

Other big disapointment is Niittymäki not being there. He would have been the best choise as the back up. Norrena may be good in WC's but he's not the goalie to go with in best-on-best tournaments.

I was scared that I was being a homer in my outrage, I'm a little suprised I'm not so alone ;)

I'm sure most of the finns would have wanted to see Niittymäki on the team. He is, as you said, the 2nd best finnish goalie at the moment.

Very expected squad.

Personally I wonder about Lehtonen, T. Ruutu and Hentunen. First two are injured and haven't played in months, IF they are healthy and have some games before the tournament, then it's perfectly fine to have them in. Hentunen is no use in these games, Jokinen or Nieminen should've been there instead. Norrena's choice was obvious, for everyone who have followed Erkka's statements and that choice is meaningless anyway, Kipper plays all games if he is healthy.

Toskala and Markkanen were not even on the radar, Norrena should have been replaced by either Niittymäki or Toivonen.

Markkanen hasn't convinced me this season.

Considering what has to be the case with Kiprusoff and Lehtonen in order for Niittymäki to play, you have to understand that whether Frank goes or not doesn't make a difference concerning icing the best team. Granted, there's not much upside to picking Norrena, but I'm with the decision. I'm giving 80% odds that Lehtonen will be the best Finnish goalie in the NHL bar Kiprusoff by the time of the tournament.

For perspective, the controversial picks are minor. Peltonen did what he had to do in order to win the spot and for once we have an abundance of forwards with second line offensive potential. However, I don't like picking Hentunen to offer limited physical play and defense and maybe score a total of one point in important games. Our checking forwards are small and Nieminen would've been needed, but like I said, this can easily be lived with.

Here's hoping all the defensemen can stay healthy and they can play Berg as little as possible. With even one injury there'll be too much liability at #6 and #7.

Lehtonen is hurt, that is my main arguement. If we were talking from the start of the season, I probably wouldn't even have Niittymaki on the team. Lehtonen's groin might act up again, considering it has all season when he has been trying to come back. He is a question mark, I suppose he can be replaced.

The goalies right now that I think should be there: Kiprusoff, Niittymaki, Toivonen.

Why send 2 goalies that combined have had less than 10 games of NHL experience?

IMO Lehtonen shuold have been replaced by Niittymäki, and Norrena by Toivonen. I can't understand why Lehtonen's there. He has played only one periond this season and makes the team over Niittymäki who has not only outplayed Lehtonen in the AHL playoffs last year but also has more experience against big teams than Lehtonen.

There has to be someone better then Berg out there for you guys.

Niinimaa. He's better than Berg and I'd have picked him over Berg, but I think his international games are over for good.

For some reason, it is a different Aki Berg in international games.

Joking, right? Niinimaa in National team is flat out horrible, I can't remember last time he actually performed well in National team. While I'm not huge fan of Berg either, he is still much better choice of these two.

Yes he can be replaced if he is not healthy, so it's just fine.

How very typical of Finns that the third goalie is the most controversial position. They'll play one out of three goalies and 19 or 20 out of 20 skaters in each game, and the problem is somehow the two out of two or three guys who don't play? People's scenario of choice is that the starter falters and the backup is broken to bits - might as well criticize Westerlund for not presenting a detailed contingency plan in the case that the entire first unit is wiped out.

No, I'm not joking. Niinimaa is clearly the most underrated finnish defenceman among finnish posters. I'm sick and tired all this Niinimaa-bashin here at HF and arguing that Berg is better than Niinimaa is just laughable.

what did Hentunen do to deserve a spot in team? J.Jokinen is much better and so is Ville Nieminen.. sigh..

Hentunen is the MAN, that´s why he is there. He is more valuable player for team than J. Jokinen.
