His stick was broken by Panarin's shot and he dropped it when he noticed it. He had a chance to pick it up if it wasn't broken

(They always whistle down high shot blocks. That's the danger with shooting it four feet over the net.)

That's the best Wheeler has looked in a long time. He is so dominant when he's on. Huge reach, quick feet, cross ice vision. Wish Laine could play like that. Laine thinks too much. That line with Little and Roslo can not get down the ice with possession, like ever. Little with Roslo and Laine just doesn't work. You need to go with Perreault Little Tanev and Roslo Lowry Laine. It might be worth a try anyways.

Somewhere nice
Jets are good enough if all firing to win the cup, and everybody is healthy.

But it would be nice if Chevy can pull

an offensive pass 1st center to play 2C
And Left hand dman.

Others will load up

:)

While I tend to lean towards the load up side as well, your ask would cost a lot. Unless you are talking a low cost depth defenseman, 2 difference makers are usually past the amount of futures a team can afford to spend.

In fairness to Laine, Wheeler didn't play like that until he was at least 26.

Yup. Yup. Yup.

Wheeler scored his 100th NHL goal when he was 27 years old. Scheifele was 24 when he scored his 100th goal. Laine did it at age 20.

Connor is 2 1/2 years older than Laine, and has half as many NHL goals.

Gee whiz, people. Let's get a bit of perspective here!

Great? Laine was okay, at least he generated shots, Roslo scored by moving high in the slot which Laine needs to try once in awhile!

Last night Laine was moving very well and actively engaged, he was even winning board battles (god forbid). He was moving like confident I just got a goal Laine. The line was thwarted from a few high quality chances in the danger zone. His game has a ways to go but last night was a good step forward IMO. I don’t worry too much about possession numbers in a one game sample size. When he is in a funk, down on himself, and not moving I find it beyond painful to watch. Last night was was the opposite of that.

Laine is going through a classic case of no confidence. As someone who has played hockey, you can see the signs. When your confidence is shot you "grip the stick tighter", which is a dumb way of saying you panic everytime you have the puck on your stick. You are constantly in your own head mentally coaching yourself, which distracts from the natural flow of the game as well. Then because you notice yourself panicking all the time, you tell yourself to relax and then you end up being too chill with the puck and with other aspects of the game. It's a constant yo-yo battle. Once you start to have confidence, everything just comes naturally, and you finally stop talking to yourself, and overcompensating on everything.

I gotta talk about this PP1. Holy moly, it's bad right now. First off, teams know that Wheeler is looking for Laine or Scheifele, so they cheat towards those players. It's so static now. Also, when Wheeler has the puck and skates towards the net (which is good), the PK unit collapses naturally, and it's here he needs to pass back to the point, but QUICKLY. He hangs on to it too long. He needs to skate in towards net, and the second the PK unit collapses, fire it to the point for either a shot, or have the point pass quickly to Laine. Also, by having the point blast from the point, it forces the PK to respect that shot, and stop cheating on Scheif and Laine so much, which will open them up more. Even if the big blast from point doesn't go in often, it's more about mixing that in more, to force the PK to stop cheating so much.

It's like football, where you keep going to the run game even when it's not working 100%, to force the D to at least respect it, to stop cheating on the pass game. Play Action.

Wheeler, he's an elite passer, but on the PP, he really needs to mix it up more, AND get that pass off instantly, when the PK collapses. Stop holding it too long.

Teams have figured out that Wheeler isn't much of a scoring threat. His shot is pretty mediocre. That has allowed them to collapse on Scheifele and hedge over to take away space from Laine.

For sure. But hockey is a game of chess. So if teams have figured you out, and know Wheeler can't shoot, what do you? You can't keep doing the same thing over and over, that is no longer working. Again, in my opinion he needs to skate in to fake that he's gonna shoot, and the instant they collapse (and not wait until they are set in their collapse), back to the point. Use that D man more. Go for tips and rebounds, and screens. At least until teams stop cheating so much. You gotta do something.

PP2 has had more success because teams PK just play them normally. Maybe run the PP2 first for awhile? IDK.

Also, people complaining about the 3rd goal on Hellebuyck - Majority of NHL goalies give up that goal. It's just how goalies are coached now. When a shooter has a clean look like that, goalies will go to their knees the second the shot is about to be fired, basically taking away everything except the sliver over their shoulder. Basically saying, "if you're gonna beat me, it has to be a top corner snipe". You'll notice Hellebuyck doesn't even react or move when that goal gets scored. He's like a statue. It's cause that's how he's coached. Puck normally hits him, or goes high/wide. If you snipe top shelf then good for you. But he's coached not to move/react to the shot once he's in position.

Players of course know this about today's goalies and practise the top corner snipe so more and more players are able to execute it.

PP1 is missing Buff, big time.

Was at the game and loved the fight from this team, going down in the 3rd isn't a problem. I used to be a Tanev detractor before but man this kid has some ballz and plays his heart out every shift. Glad he's on our side. I enjoy watching Connor play, kid is a gem. Funny my fiance always calls him "Little Tormund" because she thinks he looks like "Tormund Giantsbane" from Game of Thrones but smaller of course

Thoughts?

Rosie score because Bob took 3 and a half years to get across the crease.

But I agree that great is a bit generous for Laine last night. He had a good/solid game.
Not sure if Myers is not getting enough credit with his pass or if Bob was indeed as awful as i thought he was on that goal. I thought it should have been a relatively easy save. certainly wasn't a quick release by Roslo.
regardless...Roslovic had a very solid game and looked nifty. yeah, i typed "nifty". because when Roslovic is playing well, he actually showcases his skills at an appropriate level. when he's playing poorly, he either looks like a regular joe or is trying way too hard.
