He’s gonna be so expensive to sign lol.

Carlson had his passing stick tonight, the tip plays in the slot were all him. We criticized him a lot over the past few seasons, but it turns out he just needed more support on the blue line.
It's very challenging to be Carlson and not have other offensive d-men like it has been in the past. We don't have a Makar, but Chychrun has it in him at times.

Lapierre a game low 7:30.

Buffalo may regret signing Power to $58M+ before fully arriving. On track for career high points but altogether...meh. Still young but soft and far from sharp. Adams needs to go but their ownership doesn't seem to get it either.

Even with Sandin emerging it's still a must to lock up Chychrun for near-term competitiveness.

I wish Carbery didn't shorten the bench almost every night. I think it could put us in a dangerous position in the playoffs if we go into a long OT game. I don't expect either Miro or Lappy to be one of the starting 12 in the playoffs if everyone is healthy, but we can't assume that everyone will stay healthy.

For example, Miro had a very good game tonight. He "earned" playing time as much as one could.

Caps with both the most goals scored and the least goals allowed in the league as of tonight.
Well Kings hold that goal against mark after today's games. I would also point out Caps have played fewer games. Really no one pays much attention to number of goals allowed, but the GAA. It's all good. Caps score the most per game and they are close to giving up the least per game.

That may be the case with Miro, but he's a goal scorer. He still has to produce, but not at Ovechkin levels.

I mean he JUST turned 22 in late November. He’s so young for a top-pair defender. Not worth his cap hit yet, but what does Buffalo have but cap space.

Caps aren’t playing great — playing down to their competition — BUT they are winning.

So….yeah
"We play down to our competition" has been a thing for the Caps - and probably many, if not most or even all other teams - for decades now. Long slog and all that.

Man we gotta upgrade on Mangiapane. He’s a 3rd/4thliner making way too much. Can you honestly say he’s better than Raddyish?
I think he and Raddysh are the Caps worst forwards so far this season. I would like one of them to sit in place of Vrana.

I believe one things newbie NHL HCs need to learn over time is not to wear your primaries before the middle of the season. That they can be a bit myopic just looking in five games increments.

Was good to see Miro getting time in the 3rd period.

Lavy did that with our older regulars, which killed the team in 2nd half of seasons. Glad he's gone, and it seems he's ruining the Rangers as well.

I don’t think Mangiapane has been amazing by any means but his scoring impacts are really good and he’s on pace for 17 ES goals. Can you ask for a ton more out of a 3rd liner who’s playing with a defensive minded 3C and a rookie C converted to wing who has been struggling for most of the year? Not saying he should be resigned or is worth his salary, but I think complaining about that kind of production from your 3LW is more indicative of how well everything else has been going.

The Raddysh talk might be even more surprising. He’s the 4RW when healthy who is on pace for 37 points, has a 58% xG%, and is scoring more points/60 at 5v5 than Strome did last year. He shouldn’t be in the top 6 but he has been fantastic.

Every coach shortens the bench when they can. Carberry is amazing at doing it when he can/should/needs to. But he has also been great on back to back games. When we have back to backs next week starting with Dallas it will be much more spread. he is very smart about it.

This is part of that adversity thing. Raddysh shouldn’t be playing in top 6. But that is what we have to do. Nice to have that piece.

Mangi is fine. Just overpaid. I’d like to move him to left side and bring in a RW expiring contract. I’d rather have Miro as a callup. I’d rather have Lappy as next man in no matter who goes down.

Just like the mood in the room above, how spoilt are we now

Last year, we would have hoped to beat Buffalo, now we expect to beat Buffalo

This game seemed like it was never in doubt ... even when we were down 1, at 2-2 ... I was never worried, and the game was a bit of a snoozer tbh

We march on !
