Final Western Conference Spot

However, what the Flames have done has led them to the exact same place they've found themselves for the last 30 years, the middle. The f***ing middle. It's always the bloody middle, minus a couple of years where they managed to finish high and then get routed in the first round. Nothing about new "management" is saying it will be different.

They are the same Flames we have known for decades. Any success they have is due to fantastic goaltending. Wolf is just the new version of Kipper. He will cover up most of the disgusting warts this team has for the next 10 years.

For three decades we have been screaming for a true number-one center, and for three decades, they have not managed this. Imagine going 30 years without having a number one center. Joe Nieuwendyk was the last one the Flames had—such horrible management.
Thank you for this, I needed this after waking up to us beating the New York Feckless Toddlers. We need to lose to maximize our chances of competing down the line.

We shouldn't want playoffs, we shouldn't want to give Montreal our pick, and our fanbase is delirious for 5-6 games of playoff hockey.

What would the cost be at the draft to trade from say 30th (Florida's pick) to 11th (Montreal with our pick)? Surely more than 5-6 games of playoff hockey where a contender kicks our teeth in.

I agree Pettersson is looking good but the Canucks also don’t have a second line.
I wouldn't say no second line when fully healthy.

Debrusk - Chytil - Garland/Lekkerimakki/Suter are all capable 2nd liners IMHO not saying it's an elite 2nd line but I think with the amount of depth with the forward group combined with a very strong Dcorp top 10 in scoring and overall one of the better defensive teams, I think scoring by committee can get the job done.

The real wild card is Demko. When he comes back next week and plays like he is capable and was doing again before the latest setback, he's not gonna have the wear and tear that all the other #1's who have grinded it out all year will have.

You’re just saying that because they beat Jets 6-2 today. But sure I can agree

I think I've forgotten the existence of the Calgary Flames. I'm an Oilers fan, and they never play Edmonton (good work, NHL!). I have no idea what they do, how they do it, or how well. Will they make the playoffs? I haven't a clue where they are in the standings.

After all, why WOULD the NHL want to create rivalries by having clubs like Edmonton and Calgary play one another regularly? The massive increase in fan excitement and interest is clearly not something the League wants to be bothered with.

(Seriously, what other asinine pro-sports League would intentionally destroy rivalries by never letting natural rivalries play each other? It boggles the mind. But I guess they've made up for the lost fan interest with the tasteful revenue-stream from Gambling. Fun for the whole family!!)

As a Canucks fan I want to say Canucks but look at that Blues schedule plus their ROT wins. If the Canucks don't win tomorrow in regulation we're in a bad spot. Even if they do win and St. Louis doesn't sweep those crap teams you've got Calgary and Utah nipping at our heels. Going to take a huge effort and some bounces to get in.

St. Louis 50%
Van 25%
Calgary/Utah share 25%

If Canucks win tomorrow maybe they're even with St. Louis.

It's a bottom 10 team by every metric other than goaltending. They've scored the fewest goals in the league since Nov 1st. Like again, are we breaking Wolf's legs to achieve being bad?

It's not the same Flames we have known for decades. The only players that are still on the team from the last time they were in the playoffs are Backlund, Andersson, Vladar, and Coleman. They've gotten substantially younger, aren't throwing money and term at mid range UFAs, and are prioritizing building through the draft. The draft class they put together last year looks like it has a good chance to be the best in team history. They didn't try to add at that deadline and the one move they made this year are for a couple players under 26 that still have a lot of team control.

I get where you're coming from and the frustration with the place in the standings, like I do. I really don't need to see the team in the playoffs and would rather finish bottom 10 to not give our pick to Montreal. At the same time it's year one of the retool, the thing isn't going to be finished by September of this year. Saying this management is more of the same as the last couple decades just doesn't match reality.

Hey, Bounces. What I meant by my rant was that whatever they have done in the past 30 years has resulted in the same thing.

Will Connie crack the code? Maybe? Do I have faith? Nope.

Look at the gong show to the North. They have tried everything, and the only thing that saved their pathetic management in the last 20 years is winning the McDavid lottery. Even with him, they are trying their hardest to f*** it up!!

Calgary is trying to do the same thing minus the 100 1OA's the Oilers acquired. It's just an uphill battle. Small market team, shitty weather, no stars, no high draft picks, absolute shit ownership, unproven management, etc., etc., etc........

But hey, they got that fancy new arena coming!!!
