I was thinking Norway had a good chance to beat Denmark if the Danish NHL talent didn't join in, but most of them are there and regardless that is a strong deep squad.

Qualifiers 1 and 2 will be with Finland and Sweden, qualifier 3 with ROC/Czech/Switzerland. So two highest of the 2019 ranking play with Finland and Sweden.

Qualifier ranking:
Slovakia
Latvia
Norway
Denmark
France
Belarus
Austria
Italy
South Korea
Slovenia
Hungary
Poland

Therefore Slovakia and Latvia will go to group C if they advance, however if someone else from their group advances, things may be different.

If the NHL-ers gets pulled now, this shifts massively. Norway loses one player. Denmark loses four-five players.

South Korea's roster for the final qualification. Dalton is the only remaining naturalized player on the team.

Denmark will per Heinz Ehlers be stacked
with NA players - Still watch them crumble and loose out

Can’t qualify for the Olympics, even if their lives depended on it.

Boy with Ehlers and Bjorkstrand I expect some magic like the 2015 World Juniors. No one better injure our boy Ehlers over there.

I like it a lot. It's basically a revamp of our WCH team, but technically better (Jaros, Marincin on the D the biggest addition IMO). Of course we'll see how the team chemistry is, but on paper, this team has ambitions to be the top dog of the group.

Very excited to see Studenic and Slafkovsky again, hope to see some more goal scoring from them.

Cehlarik Hrivik Lantosi were fire as the first line and I expect that's going to continue.

Marko Dano - I don't know about him. Haven't seen him in a while. Anybody maybe seen him play recently?

Forgive me if this has already been posted, looks like a strong French group:

Guardians: Henri-Corentin BUYSSE (Amiens), Florian HARDY (Anglet), Sébastian YLÖNEN (Cergy-Pontoise)
Defenders: Yohann AUVITU (Helsinki IFK, FIN)*, Romain BAULT (Amiens), Florian CHAKIACHVILI (Rouen), Pierre CRINON (Dukla Michalovce, SVK), Hugo GALLET (KalPa, FIN), Kévin HECQUEFEUILLE (Mulhouse), Vincent LLORCA (Angers), Antonin MANAVIAN (/), Thomas THIRY (Bern, SUI)*
Attackers: Pierre-Édouard BELLEMARE (Tampa Bay Lightning, USA), Eliot BERTHON (Geneva, SUI), Charles BERTRAND (Tappara Tampere, FIN), Tim BOZON (Lausanne, SUI), Valentin CLAIREAUX (Mlada Boleslav, CZE)*, Stéphane DA COSTA (Yekaterinburg, RUS), Floran DOUAY (Lausanne, SUI), Loïc FARNIER (Angers), Damien FLEURY (Grenoble), Jordann PERRET (Mountfield HK, CZE), Anthony RECH (Wolfsburg, GER), Nicolas RITZ ( Angers), Antoine ROUSSEL (Arizona Coyotes, USA), Alexandre TEXIER (Colombus Blue Jackets, USA), Sacha TREILLE (Grenoble)

That's a very strong French team. They could give Latvia a run for their money.

I'm really nervous about Slovakia missing the Olympics. Missing Tatar, Panik, Cernak, Sekera and especially Halak are big blows. Sure, they have the strongest team on paper, but from a mental standpoint, they have everything to lose. They could certainly fall to Belarus on a mediocre day, and even to Austria on a terrible day. Especially with those goaltenders.

Yes, looks decent. But where is Pierrick Dube?

CBJ has signed OLE JULIAN Bjørgvik HOLM.

Does this mean he won't be allowed to play?

I don't see why Columbus wouldn't let him play. He's nowhere near making their roster, and so they can "afford" losing him to injury. Not to mention these are big games and would be a great experience for him.

First time since a long time France NT has all its strengths combined.
Players and management is focused on this TQO since months
since the last TQO and the lost vs Norway (1-2 in the last few minutes) I should say...

The game vs Latvia should be emotional for CBJ players in memory of Matiss Kivlenieks :(

Yeah, no. The French goalies suck, most of their leading players are on the way out. Bellemare is 36, Roussel has been pretty terrible recently. All they have is one good line, but the rest of them are mediocre or worse.

This is the strongest/deepest team Latvia will ice since the 90s. I don't really see us losing against them.

Take a look at out forward group:
Darzins - Blueger - Indrasis
Balcers - Abols - Daugavins
Bukarts - Girgensons - Kenins

You have 3 NHL guys and everyone else is a near-PPG player in KHL/SHL/NL/CZE.

The 4th line can consist of
Ri. Bukarts (KHL)
Tralmaks (AHL)
Dzierkals (KHL)
Dzerins (KHL)
Smirnovs (NL)
Egle (AHL)

Our NT rosters of the years gone by were always structured in a way that would give us a fighting chance against more skilled opponents. There were always a bunch of grinders in the bottom 6.

This is the first time in the history of Latvian hockey that we actually have the depth to ice 4 lines of highly skilled guys with good hands and the ability to score goals at a major pro level. So excuse me for my arrogance, but the other teams don't really stand a chance. I don't see us losing against Italy or Hungary even 1 out of 10 times, which is not the case for France. They can easily lose points against other teams.

So from a tournament-wide perspective, it is quite unlikely for Latvia to end up 2nd or worse in the group.

Wow, easy there :surrender

Latvia is clearly the favourite, and I'm well aware of who most of those players are. But this is ice hockey, a game full of bounces, power plays and goaltending deciding games. Anything can happen in one game. I agree Italy and Hungary should be easy games. I'm just saying if it's one team potentially upsetting Latvia, it's gonna be France.

France having all of Bellemare, Roussel, Texier, Auvitu, Da Costa and Bertrand on the same team is a big deal for them. It's not something we typically see at the World Championships. Again, Latvia is the clear favourite, but France has beaten Canada and Russia in modern history with worse teams. If Latvian players enter that game underestimating their opponent, that could turn out to cost them.
