Russia so desperate to be included in international sport again, knowing they can't beat the best of the best so they propose a summit against a program they feel like they have a shot against, can't make this up lmao.

Murica will go Red Dawn them

Oh you sweet ignorant man.

The problem with comments like this is it's difficult to say how dumb they are without breaking rules.

Specifically, I will not comment.

More generally, international sports are intrinsically political.

You are making events to compete under the banner of political entities.

They have been funded as a way to create national pride or prove which system is better. Completely political.

Bans and boycotts don't usually apply to professional athletes in pro leagues because they are about the sport and not politics.
The problem with comments like this is that you assume you are informed.
The reality is that the narratives we are being told are rarley the truth.
The public is generally misinformed about the reality of these situations...we are informed to level of our national propaganda. Strings are being pulled in the backgorund.

So the right thing to do is remove the political veil from sport. The players have nothing to do with the political propaganda and the political game being played in the background anyway.

No it shouldn't have and no, there would still be problems.

Sports and politics are intertwined on all levels whether you like it or not.
The point isnt about not having any problems. The point is to try and maintain (as much as possible) the purity of sport.

Because it's entertainment.
It is indeed. Thats why I watch as well.
Just to be clear though...I never claimed that sport is currently pure.
Although it should be...as much as its humanly possible.

My point was that we should strive to maintain the reason why we all play and even watch sport.

Anytime there is big money invloved it becomes much more difficult though. No doubt about that.

So the comment about lesser Leagues (earlier in this thread) certainly has merit.

It must be tough for you getting through life with that GIANT tinfoil hat on your head.

First, I don't think my comment was referring to any specific knowledge. Just that "international" sports are intrinsically political.

This is supported by a reality where I can be informed or one where I am "informed to level of our national propaganda" & "Strings are being pulled in the backgorund".

The quality of information is irrelevant in my assertion, just that nation states are political entities and international sports are funded, organised and promoted by these states and their associate organisations.

On a separate note, I don't endorse your position on information. I don't have the interest or mandate to debate you on that here, so I'm just going to "ignore" you and move on.

It isn’t political to say that the level of hubris required to think that you are able to see through the misinformation but an entire ecosystem of people who study this stuff for a living is duped is something.
