Under the last coaching staff, I'd agree. Couldn't stand the way we played, the poor decision making or lack of adjustments all together mid-game. The whole team underperformed last season.I like this team *this year* enough that we have the talent and plan to break through. FWIW I still think NJD beats the Rangers in 7 this year. Regardless if NJD makes the playoffs or not.
By contrast, with mostly the same roster save some role guys, the coaching staff figured out what makes each player tick, they focused on some glaring weaknesses such as face offs, which improve possession, simplified the systems, more structured tho last night wasn't a great example. I take this Rangers over the Devs in a 7 game series.
Last spring I wanted no part of the Devs and they showed why. But this season its a different story. I'm anxious to see how this coaching staff handles the playoffs. I bet the structure will be very ridged. I don't believe there will be many firewagon hockey moments. Rangers have been one of the stingiest defensive teams in the league so far. 5v5 they could stand to score more but I've always been of the belief that 5v5 is more random than anything because there's two full strength teams the chances are reduced and a lot of the time it's waiting on a mistake to take advantage of. I also think our 5v5 production can/will improve if we address the 3rd line. With Chytil and Kakko out that's a big hit to our 5v5 depth. Have to believe that gets addressed either by both, or one coming back into the lineup and/or a trade/promotion to add a player with more offensive output than Bonino/Brodzinski/Vesey. Cyulle is perfect there. But we need more out of the other 2 spots.
