I love Mats and he’s my greatest leaf of all time, but Fedorov was consistently one of the best in the league and I don’t think Mats reached those same heights

Imagine drafting Fedorov and Lidstrom in the same draft? Imagine neither of them cost you a 1st or a 2nd rounder? That still blows my mind to this day.

Imagine drafting two players who played 1000 games in the league and another who was a Norris runner up all in the same draft and none of them are one of the best two players you drafted that year

Fedorov's peak gives him the edge, but Sundin was better on the back half of his career. Sundin's longevity and consistency is extremely rare, especially considering the era he played through.

Has any draft ever rivaled that? I'm trying to think of another where two HOFers were drafted by the same team, even if they were in the 1st round, but nothing comes to mind. I remember Kopitar and Quick were in the same draft, although - as great as they are - they obviously come nowhere close to Fedorov and Lidstrom. Other than that I'm drawing blanks.

Fedorov by a significant margin.

Feds had a much higher peak, was better defensively throughout their careers, and was a much much better playoff performer.

Sundin maybe has some extra good seasons over their career spans due to his consistency but that’s about it.

Fedorov, but team strengths probably makes the gap look a bit wider than it was. But Fedorov was just an overall more natural talent.

Federov's peak was unreal, by far he was superior IMO. However, I always enjoyed watching Mats play, from back when with the Nordiques and his BFF Pierre Page lol
