Finland, Russia, Canada in no particular order are the favourites.

McDavid is the favourite to win the scoring title and MVP.

Russia or Finland. Canada is too young and inexperienced. McDavid will shine though.

The Finns are pretty young too though. I'm not sure if they're as young as we are overall (haven't averaged out the ages), but they got Aho and Laine for example who are expected to play top 6 minutes.

The last game of the Round Robin against Finland should determine first place in our group. It will be a very important game for elimination seedings.

I expect Russia to finish #1 in their group. If we finish #1 in our group we won't see them until the Gold medal game, assuming both sides win all their games to get there.

I would much rather see the Russians for Gold than in a semi or quarter final.

Me and Milansdad have agreed that Hungary is going to win it. I am the first person to suggest Hungary will win it, so if anyone agrees with me, I started the trend bro ;)

Now you're talking. :yo: Even though I don't remember any of this conversation and would be glad if we stayed up somehow.

I honestly love it if at the expense of France, Belarus or Slovakia because I prefer Hungary to them but Slovakia and Belarus are really good, and France is protected (which is stupid).

No way Hungary beats Slovakia. The Slovaks will crush them. If Hungary beats Slovakia, it would be a huge upset and reason to party :).

After the so called "Big 6" hockey nations, Slovakia and Switzerland are typically that next tier rounding out the top 8. The Slovaks should put on a clinic against Hungary.

Slovakia beats Hungary by 5+.

I have low expectations on this Swedish team. All parts of the team are below average, defense looks really bad. The roster isn't weak enough to get outplayed badly by any team in this tournament though.

Uhh...I posted my round one fantasy team on the Slovak board you can go check what I predict...what I want, what I predict, 2 very different things...

Swedens strengths:
1. Coaching,
2. Familiarity with the large ice surface,
3. Top level systems,
4. Lots of skill, and
5. Top to bottom skating level = among the top 3 countries in the world.

Sweden will be fine. Sure, more NHL players would have helped, but your SHL players are good hockey players accustomed to the big ice and will do very well.

As they say "cheer with your heart, bet with your brain".

I know you're just trying to have fun and cheer on an underdog. Honestly, I'm sorry, I re-read my post and I came off like a grump .

Should be a fun tournament and good time celebrating Spring with our Northern brethren.

Lol no prob at all. I can't see the flag you're Slovak right? Sometimes when people go after my teams I get hyped too then realize they're just messing.

With milo though he pointed out that I was the first person on the USA forum to say "we won't get relegated since there's Hungary" and all the other Americans agreed. So to make up for it I'm the first person in this forum to predict Hungary will win it all haha

No brother, Canadian.

Sorry, was on my phone and the flag emoji doesn't display. That's cool though. I like Canada's chances, I originally had Hall as my captain and then kept him on my roster despite giving the band to Reway. Game 2 I promise I will have 4 Canadians haha

I like Canada's chances though, Canada is just naturally good and Russia always puts forth a great team, I'd still have to go with Canada as my second pick for the tournament winner, in case my first doesn't work out.

saros wins the WJC in Malmö against Sweden this year he will win the WC in Moskau against Russia :yo:

Would be pretty cool if Finland won U18, U20 and Senior WHC all in one year.
Canada, Russia, Finland - in no order.
Sweden has an outside chance and so does Czech Rep. I guess? Don't know how the Swiss squad looks.
Outside of those, huge upsets will have to take place.

I'd say word "favorite" equals to "strong team on paper". Of course, the strongest team does not always win, but they're the favorite regardless. Therefore...

1. Canada
2. Russia
3. Finland

These three stand out, in that order. Then I've no idea how to distinguish the Czech Rep, Sweden and USA. But they form the next tier.

Yup.

Anyone saying we have a better team than Canada are out of their minds

I'd say:

1) Canada (won last olympics and last year's WHC, they're doing things right for sure + the best team on paper by far.. big ice / complacency might be an issue)

2) Russia (taking into account they will add either Ovie/Kuzy or Malkin, i'd say they're the n. 2 on paper. History shows that Russia struggles at home though, they have the most pressure in this tournament)

3) Finland (good forward group, questionable defense to say the least and unproven goaltending in the WHC level, still the clear #3 IMO)

4) USA (some very interesting young players in Matthews, Connor, Hanifin etc. so they should be hungry. Im giving them a decent chance to surprise a lot of teams in this tournament, but i doubt they would go all the way as they are a step below Finland and as always big ice for them could be an issue)

5) Sweden (in the same tier with USA, could surprise but 4 NHL skaters isn't enough for the Swedes to win it all)

6) Czechs (one of the worst Czech teams i've ever seen, they're barely even better than Switzerland, if they even are)

The rest.
