OT: Favorite S****Y Beer

My wife is a beer expert for a living so I can get anything I want as long as she approves first ;)

Strange as it seems, a shi**y beer is a bit of a treat. Ice cold Olympia or a Sleeman's are a go-to.

I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weekend. Thank you to all who serve/served.

I don’t drink much beer these days, but when I do, I usually will have one or two heavy ones or an IPA.

Sometimes, though, In an unironic way, I enjoy a Miller Lite. It’s the only shitty beer I can half tolerate. Other people like Bud Lite, Coors, my cousin inexplicably likes Busch Lite, the hipsters love Pabst…

HF family, if you are having a shitty beer this weekend, what is your preference?

I’m too lazy to create a poll.

Also mods if this needs to be merged, I get it.

Quint,

I used to drink high ABV beer.

These days, I prefer Sam Adams Boston Lager, which clocks in at about 5.0. I would not describe it as "shitty" (I'll leave that to the experts), just relatively inexpensive, ostensibly local, and pretty good for what it is.

Remember, it's only an island if you look at it from the water.

I'll always enjoy Samual Smith's Oatmeal Stout and Taddy Porter. Chimay. Guiness, etc.

The craft stuff, I shall leave to the snobs. They love their PBR.

Okay, Boomer. And you, too, Millenial. You're both morons.

But I digress.

High school to college: The Old Guard: Molson "Export Ale," Michelob, now defunct Michigan-centric Stroh's, Becks, Heinekin, LaBatts, Bass, my beloved Moosehead, and the evidenty deceased Löwenbräu ("Tonight, let it be Löwenbräu").

Upon arrival in Boston, 1982, it was Hamm's, Tuborg, Grolsch, Bud/Bud Light, terrible wine coolers (yes, it was the '80s), and, say it with me,

Haffenreffer.

AKA, "Green Death." Indeed it was.

So, barf your guts out Boston.

Take two ibuprofen before bed, plenty of water at the ready, and don't call me in the morning.

Take care,

Martin Brody

I grew up in Milwaukee in the 70's & Early 80's, back when it still had multiple large scale breweries operating. My uncle worked for the Pabst brewery and we got cases of PBR, plus their "cheaper" brand, Red White & Blue. PBR was the go-to beer for the blue collar working person. Blatz Beer folded when I was younger, probably for the best. Schlitz followed a few years later. Both of those beers were not good.....But you could get it cheap if that's all you could afford.

As a young teenager (15-16) my buddies and I would take the bus to the Miller Brewery on a Saturday and take the tour. They always gave you 2 tokens for free beer at the end, and they really didn't check IDs. Back then, the drinking age was 18 so they pretty much turned a blind eye. Those were the days. We'd take that tour twice, get 4 beers in us, and then take the bus home and enjoy our evening, thinking we got one over on everybody, but my dad knew what was up....

I still like PBR, although I have no idea where its brewed anymore. I also won't turn my nose up at a Miller High Life........the Champagne of Beers.
Miller now brews/bottles both PBR and Schlitz.

Favorite shitty beer? God this takes me back... Natty Ice? Lol

Stay on topic!! :sarcasm:

This thread is very important.. we're talking about shitty beer here
Oh man, when I was down to my last dollar in Everett (sorry if you like it there, but the only place in MA I ever hated), and then, sadder still, Cleveland, Ohio and then Denver, CO, it was bang for the buck, freezer half an hour (my freezer was old), drink it cold as you can, 'cause it is...

Shitty. Seriously shitty. Like, if you quaffed frozen Elmer's glue.

That shitty.

This reminds of Brian Jones, who founded (yes) the Rolling Stones.

In their very early days, the band was broke, All they could afford, often, were potatoes.

Jones grew so heartily sick of them (boiled, for the most part, English cuisine being what it was, and remains), Brian vowed that, upon success, no more spuds.

Doubtless he would turn his nose up at Natty Daddy as well.

High school in Grosse Pointe, MI, Ambassador Bridge to Windsor: Bradur (6.2%!) on the other side.

Moosehead, we could get locally. A great favorite, to this day. Difficult to find in MA.

All beers are shitty.

I can't stand the stuff. Never could. The only times I would drink beer is if I was really drunk and there was nothing else left to drink.
Fair enough.

We all like what we like, or not.

If you have ever spent time at the Beacon Hill Pub, The Tam, Sullivan's at North Station, Our House West in Allston or the immortal Mary Ann's at Cleveland Circle you may have come face to face with Boston's worst beer of all time.

BRUBAKER

Sam’s always gives me the biggest toilet cloggers. No other beer does that.

I forgot about Yeungling! the company I’ve worked w on and off for 16 years is based in the South so always had it at company meetings. Glad to see it has made its way here.

Early 2000s you could get a 20oz glass of Killians at Unos for 2$ - solid.
