I think anyone would have failed after Bob Miller unless they were able to hire Doc Emrick or something. I would say that Faust annoys me a little, but I also do think his voice is naturally suited for the role and he is capable.
However, he comes off as more homerish than Bob, although Bob became more as the years went on and never hid his allegiances and Bob did so in a lovable non-obnoxious way. Sometimes Faust really gushes over Kings players or heavily sides with them in a very obvious and annoying fashion. He gets caught not knowing what he is talking about a bit and he is forcing some colloquialisms that are grating - if I have to hear about the dagger one more time...
In the end, Faust doesn't treat the job as an end game. I don't think his goal is to be the Kings broadcaster for the remainder of his career. It was nice to hire fresh blood, I wish we saw that more in the hockey ownership/management circles, and he isn't horrible by any means, but he was always going to be cursed taking the role after Bob and being paired with Foxy and his flaws are going to be shining brighter than Carmex on a cold sore for all the fanbase to see.
I can live with him and hopefully, he continues to smooth out in the role. Obviously, he is better now than when he started, and while Foxy and he are still an odd pairing, they have a lot more chemistry now than when they started. The longer he is in the role, the more acceptance he will earn. I mean, it is kind of like Blake, half the fanbase wanted his head when he started, and now half the fanbase is annoyed with him and the old boys club, may still want him to be replaced or do things better, but the vitriol has mostly subsided - he has done well in his role and there are positives to take away. I think Faust may experience the same as time goes by if he sticks with it in LA.
