Movies: Fantastic Four - July 25, 2025

Sue is confirmed to be pregnant. Trailer shown at CinemaCon also showed Silver Surfer. Could be released for the public later today, since it's 4.4. 2025.

Shakman — whose previous credit in the MCU was directing the similarly retro WandaVision — was keen to make the film feel plucked from that time, or at least a fantasy MCU version. “I really wanted to go with as grounded a version of space as possible,” he says. “So, no wormholes. Their tech is very much retro-future, but it's also booster rockets. It’s a combination of Marvel and Apollo 11.”

That philosophy extended into how the film itself was made. “I really wanted it to feel like it was made in 1965, the way Stanley Kubrick would have made it,” says Shakman. “Within reason.” There is, he says, an emphasis on practical sets and props — the production included a 14-foot-tall spaceship miniature, similar to how Kubrick used miniatures on 2001: A Space Odyssey — and Shakman and his team have “used old lenses, and taken an approach to filmmaking that feels more of the time. Of course, we still have a lot of CG.”

Marvel didn't exactly pick Robert Downey Junior out of obscurity in 2008....

The MCU is in terminal decline, if not for the decent Deadpool movie, it was close to dead in the water. They need the extra star power that Pascal brings (though Gladiator 2 wasn't exactly a hit...), basically I don't think they could afford to put this role on a newcomer.
Not a newcomer, but a decently known actor would have been fine as well.

The 2005 cast, with maybe save for Alba was probably the best F4 cast.

Don't know too much about the new cast. Pascal, I do agree seems over exposed.

Wow that looks great! 2 things though, why is the Silver Surfer a woman and who would those huge boots belong to? Galactus? Ant Man?

Shalla-Bal, Norrin Radd's love interest, whom he protected by becoming the herald of Galactus, took the offer in this universe, which is not the MCU 616 universe. Also happened in the comics. Unlikely to survive the move to the 616, which will open the door for Radd to become the Surfer in it. It was Galactus jailwalking in NY.
