Seems harsh.

Roster needs some tinkering. They have have too many guys who duplicate each other's skill sets which means you end not being able to maximize a lot of roster spots. Why do you need all of Sanderson, Chychrun, Chabot and Brannstrom? You don't need both Kubalik and Tarasenko. When you're cap-strapped it's hard to carry guys like Kastelic and MacEwen who have extremely limited utility, which is why one of them has already been waived.

To me the core of the team is Tkachuk, Stutzle and Sanderson. I' be open to discussing everybody else.

Sounds like we need a new tinkerer rather than more tinkering.

I have had the nervousness before each game that we will come out flat and give up glorious chances.

We have beaten 3 bad teams and while we looked dominant doing it, the difference between then and from the 2nd period on against the Wings is huge.

Our 5 on 5 scoring needs to get going but if our PK and PP stay where they are, it will be a long season.

Is this vibes based?

PK sure, hasn’t been good. PP is at 22%, 3.84 GF/60 at 5v5. 3 games with 3 or more 5v5 GF. 2 with 2 GF and 1 with 1GF. 5v5 scoring is going.

PK really has been struggling, despite the underlying numbers looking surprisingly good,

12th inxGA/60
12th in sca/60
7th in HDCA/60

But 27th in sv%

It seems like when we get a scored on, it's almost right away, giving the impression that were terrible, idk if it has to do with our ability to get set up right after losing the faceoff, or what, but there are some aspects that are working well that get overlooked because of this.

6 years to get here???? to have 5 out of 20 spots still missing...25%

so they need 2 more years? and with their backs against the cap!!!

It is only apt that they played Buffalo yesterday! Are we heading to our own 12 year stretch of missing the playoffs?

I hope not.... By the way, in 2 years, 4-5 of the guys on your list will be gone.. We are talking tail chasing.

Try a new coach first before calling it a failure

Let Dorion making a single additional decision?

My narrative since January 2021, since these 3 consecutives losses against Vancouver when they destroyed us 16-3. Our offseason was absolutely horrible but our start to that season confirmed that Dorion has no idea what he was doing.

Even though his tenure pretty much started with Zibanejad + 2nd for Brassard, it was hard to know how clueless he was outside of "We're a team" moments because all he had to do was to SELL our best players for the best offers (probably missed on some of these actually) and draft HIGH and as often as possible*. When it actually came to managing assets and proper roster construction (which includes coaching), the experience has been nothing short of a nightmare.

I am sorry but you know very little about the NHL if you think that Dorion has been helping and not sabotaging our organizational wealth Complain about me all you want.

* Speaking of that, this is what we have to show for 6 drafts of being out of the playoffs (bottom-3 the first 3 years, bottom-10 the next 2 years) AND selling Karlsson, Duchene, Stone, Pageau in their prime (+ Brassard, Dzingel, Hoffman, Ceci) :

4th OA Brady Tkachuk
26th OA Jacob Bernard-Docker
19th OA Lassi Thomson
3rd OA Tim Stutzle
5th OA Jake Sanderson
28th OA Ridly Greig

10th OA Tyler Boucher

Only 4 players come from the 1st round despite sucking 6 years AND selling the whole previous roster that went to the ECF

No team in the league has players as good as Pinto and Greig on the 4th line. This team needs defensive D men that make players pay the price and a team that plays with more urgency. They arent that far away. They need a new coach first to see if players like Batherson and Chabot can be coached to the point where their massive levels of talent are effective.

1) over the cap, 6 D men have 2 years plus on their contracts (2023/2024 being one of those years). It is unlikely they get moved. So KLEVIN is your one and only move.. aside from some huge trade! which is nearly impossible in todays NHL since most teams are cap bound.

2) The GM has to go first, then a new coach.. Andlauer has barely been here. He will need more time to make moves. By late November. Let's hope they are still in it.

3) Bath and Chab are who they are. Their play has been this way for 2-3 years now and as 25 to 27 year olds, what are you going to change exactly.

To a large extent, most things associated with this team are locked. Things began to get locked in early 2022. Contracts, trades, and so on.. Melnyk was dead, no owner... no Andlauer yet.. No one was minding the store.. and even if Eugene was alive, he was doing a piss poor job.

So either this things works out. Or we are Buffalo or Vancouver.

They have basically only had one coach at the NHL level, you dont know that. They werent these types of players years ago, a new coach can change plenty. They have never been held accountable, the talent is there their commitment is not.

Both Chabot and Batherson looked good in their first two seasons when they were trying to establish themselves before they got paid when there was zero pressure to win games. Mistakes were overlooked and every good play was celebrated.

Kudos to them for having a couple of promising seasons in that environment, but a good rookie or sophomore season doesn't make an NHL career.

They both got paid, and when the focus turned to winning, both checked out.

Maybe a new coach can rehabilitate them, but I have my doubts. Especially Chabot. When you're turning 27 with almost 400 games under your belt, you are what you are. And with his salary, it's not good.

At least Batherson, even if he just is an offensively talented but defensively poor 2nd line winger a PP contributor, you can make that work at $4.9M.

Chabot at $8M? That's tough.

Look at Debrincat right now, he is a completely different player. It happens all the time, they have never had another voice the teams shouldnt be breaking up the core until the new management can see them under a new coach. I also think that from a culture perspective having a new GM and boss will create a trickle down. Dorion has no leadership abilities and it starts from the top.
