Fabian Zetterlund traded to Ottawa

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Cousins should be ready to go at the end of this month as his injury is listed at 6-8 weeks. It'll be 8 weeks on March 26th, just in time to get ready for the playoffs.
I thought he said on CiH a few weeks ago, he was hoping for mid to late April.

Great game considering his minutes and just goes to show you: it doesn't matter what line you are on. If you play to your ability, you will get noticed and you can be effective

I think he's going to be useful, but won't meet the high expectations I've seen here. Maybe he's still finding his way, but from what I've seen of him here and from the Sharks is that he's more of a bottom sixer that can score 20 on a bad team, but 10-15 on a good team.

Still great to have and if they can keep his salary around $3M it provides solid depth.

Bro having hard time adjusting. In SJ he played 16:58 on average. Last 2 games with Ottawa - under 10 minutes of ice time, 0 shots.

I’m not sure if he’s having a tough time adjusting. He’s not used to his strenghts. He’s playing on a checking line with inept AHLers when he was used to playing with top tier NHLers in a scoring role.

No one on our roster would do well in that spot.

Cousins needs to come back and man I think I would rather have MacEwen and Reinhardt on that 4th line than what we have now.

Thought he'd slot in with Pinto and Greig to replace Amadio. He's got a bit of sand paper though to him that would also work well with Stutzle and Giroux if Brady needs to be out for maintenance.

Can't see him staying sub 10 TOI forever, butt yeah, not seeing the 25-25 scorer some people were advertising in the trade forum.

How can someone perform and showcase 50pt potential playing sub in 10 min with diddle dee (gaud) and diddle dumb (Highmore). McDavid could barely put up 50pt with those AHL scrubs.

He’s only on the 4th line because we finally have depth. He’s someone who move up in case of poor play or injury.

I don't understand why they traded for him, I have yet to see a single thing from this guy.

We were missing depth all season due to injuries to Perron, Cousins, and Norris. Giroux was inconsistent, Amadio and Greig were playing average without Pinto. Batherson was asleep at the wheel.

Fast forward to now … Perron comes back and starts playing well. Norris is traded for Cozens so that’s not an issue anymore. Batherson is revived. First line starts playing well again. Greig and Amadio are back with Pinto and playing incredible.

Looking at it now, I agree with you. Ostapchuk would be a better fit here winning faceoffs, PK, playing fast and hard and bring physicality playing 4th line center. I’d rather have Ostapchuk the way our lineup is currently structured.

The thing is when the trade was made we actually needed depth, and we probably will need it going forward, but right now if you ask me I would rather have Osty on 4C and MacEwen on 4RW and send Highmore/Gaudette to the moon. At least that line would have an identity. Our 4th line is useless right now and they should honestly not play more than 5 minutes a night…. But you can’t play Zetterlund 5 minutes a night.

It’s a good situation to be in for the team… in a way … but you have to wonder when Zetterlund and his agent start calling Staios and ask for more playing time. Guy is in a contract year and was pacing 45ish points and was brought in to add scoring depth. There’s no way he’s happy with where he’s at. He’s in a contract year, he needs to play. For us we also don’t know what we have … so how do you determine if you want to give him a long term deal?

I still thinks he gets in and gets a lot more playing time at the expense of another player who’s playing really well.

I think I’d try Greig at 4C, Perron on 3LW and Zetterlund on 2LW.

Basically how I feel as well, good post.

Contract will be interesting - do you want to be paying more than &2 million for a guy who’s only giving you 12 minutes? He’s a project which is good for Ottawa and they needed wing depth, but how are they going to pay this guy if he can barely crack the 2nd PP unit?
