Player Discussion Fabian Lysell

Yes but Holloway shows other interesting things, like physical play, involved, energy, Lysell doesn’t mind anything really nothing
having a breakout year for sure, never really played much in the AHL but he does play with something Lysell doesn`t and that`s jam.

I`m not ready to give up on Lysell as I want to see him play with two established NHL linemates before making a final assessment

He's good for the tank, that's about it. Seems disinterested most of the time and besides very good speed I have seen nothing that indicates he should be in the NHL or has an NHL future unless his mentality changes quickly and it does not seem like that is going to happen

At first glance, it appeared that the Bruins did quite well for themselves in the first round of Friday night’s NHL Entry Draft: they snagged a highly rated Swede with high-end talent late in the first round.

Not bad!

Shortly after he was selected, however, murmurs began that the newest Bruin, Fabian Lysell, had “character concerns” that caused him to fall further into the first round than he otherwise may have.

These “concerns” were amplified by being mentioned on the ESPN2 broadcast, but merely mentioned in passing with no context (which is pretty bad on the broadcast’s part).

To me, if you’re going to mention “character concerns” on national TV immediately after a kid gets drafted into the NHL, you owe it to your audience to elaborate; instead, we’ve seen a whole bunch of guys mention “rumblings” or “what I hear” without actually saying anything.

When you hear “character concerns,” you probably jump to the worst-case scenario. In Lysell’s case, it appears to be a situation where things are being overblown.

After being mentioned on the broadcast, it was Tweets like this and this that fanned the flames of “bad guy” takes on Lysell.

I thought they had something with this kid when they drafted him, I was wrong, let him finish out the year, and then move on from him, maybe he could be the piece that make a Swayman deal more palatable. One can only hope.

Really want Lysell to be a player for them long term, but that was not NHL caliber last night.

Hopefully they give him prime opportunities to bounce back the rest of the season. Feels like if he can just pot one this year it could help his mental going into the summer.

He still needs to see some reps. Sitting him was a mistake. He started to look a bit more comfortable until Sacco decided to hurt his confidence by basically saying he wasn’t good enough to play against the Caps. So he looked like he did his first game. Jittery and uncomfortable.

He may never figure it out, he may have skills, but how he reads the game is still very suspect to me. This is the time though to see what he has. It’s thr dead end games of the season where you should have your future in the lineup to see what they got. Not jags that won’t be here next season

He gives up too early
Im sure he’s getting that feedback. Remember, this league is faster. You can tell he’s hesitant at times because of the big hits. He should adjust with his skying. It’s just being confident and letting the game come to him. This is good or him to see for himself. Im rooting for the kid. The team needs kids to push.

Curious what folks who've seen him in Providence this year have to say about his game. What, if anything, isn't translating to the NHL?
I haven’t seen him this year but last year he kind of push the rush and set up the goals. To me he’s a good set up man and can take the puck over the blue line. He just need to watch the hits that come his way.

Seen him played for the WJC, maybe watched 7-8 AHL last 2 years, watched the 2 nhl games of this season and it s not a lot of games, but it's always been the same thing, no show, no interest, no hard work, soft, never hit people, always lose board battle...not a good pick, another useless first pick!

So there's a chance

I haven’t seen enough of him to have a solid opinion. That said, what i have seen meshes with you.

It’s also something that never ceases to amaze me with some young players in these situations. By all accounts the skill is there, they have it right in their grasp. Their whole life of dreams.

Hard work, extra effort, hustle. Got to be so easy to do.

If I had any f***ing talent at all, i would have made coaches notice me as an absolute hound every f***ing shift.

By the way, we coulda won States if the coach had only put me in,

What an amazing take you can have about a young player in just a few games over 2+ years. When did you get your call for head scout?? While you were watching those couple games, did you also notice the teams 10 game loss streak and their position in the standing? Or maybe the other roster players performing not named Pastrnak and Geekie? Please tell us how a 22yo is going to stand out on this roster in 6 games in his first year.

his horrible effort on , I believe the Tuch goal where he reaches for the puck in the right circle and the Sabres player easily steals it did it for me

Plays with a complete absence of desire unless the puck is on his stick and even then..sad really, was super pumped about this kid a few years ago

This showcase continues to trend downwards. I continue to have high hopes for the kid and hope this showing kicks his ass in gear.

But based off what I have seen, he gets 1 or 2 chances a game to score and it doesn’t amount to much. The rest of the game he looks lost in D zone coverage and handles the puck like a grenade when he does have it. Especially in the neutral zone.

It’s shaping out to be a tough math equation for him. He hasn’t been able to produce anything in this stint to show, or even flash, he can be a top 6 winger in this league, and he definitely doesn’t have the 200 foot game to be a bottom 6 player.. so barring something clicking for him I think he may have SHL or a change of scenery all over him.

I’m not giving up on him and I don’t think management should either. He’s completely lacked confidence in this stint and I don’t think we’ve seen anywhere close to his best game or what he’s capable of showing. I still think if he can get first first goal or even point things could change.

Morning coffee ramble continues: I hate doing this, but this is how of a microscope he is under for me. Does he just look kind of awkward and out of place? Behind the B showings or even just interactions during the game I don’t see a personality. Just head buried and looks like his thoughts are going a mile a minute. Try to have some fun kid! Getting big checks to play a game.
