Player Discussion Fabian Lysell

I am anxious to see what he can do, but don't think he plays the right style to be effective-despite talent.
I would have said this same thing a few months back but now we have Kusnetdinov and Mittelstadt and a general sense of playing with more speed and pace so maybe there's a fit now?
A lot might depend on who they play him with but I too am interested to see if he has anything to offer at the NHL level.

I believe Providence is in a battle to move up in the standings for a better playoff spot.
These guys need to stay there and produce.
The main club takes all priority, time to give this kid a chance to see what he has and get a better read on what needs to be done offseason.

Hope they give him at handful of games. I want to see if he has improved on working within a system, and knowing his lanes. He can have all the talent in the world, but if he cant figure out how to work in a team's system he will not make it.

I hope they put him on the line with Middelstadt instead of Lettieri. That makes the most sense to me at the moment. He could go with Lindholm's line too I guess.
Mittelstadt makes the most sense to me. Let them play with pace and speed and see what happens.

I'd still like to see them try Pasta with Mittelstadt as well. They seem set on their top line but there's an opportunity to experiment here to give you ideas for what you need next year (or don't need). What's the worst that can happen, a better draft pick?

Well it’s a good goddam thing his 200 foot game is all there in their estimations. After all, he’s coming up to be a bottom 6 grinder.

He won’t score in this league without it.

It’s his biggest flaw that he needed to work on in order to show he had the grit to get to the places you need to in the nhl to score consistently

But that will be separate from the coach and the system and the role whoever that is wand whatever that is will play long term

That’s just not true though. Plenty of high skill forwards - like Connor and Barzal - score a ton without going into a corner without being threatened with their life.

Yes true, and I mean both Barzal and Connor have cups to their name so…

Come on man, not even my point anyways.

Lysell needed to commit to playing all three zones because that’s how you generate offense in the NHL especially in the playoffs. It’s not about him being Bergeron or the toughest guy in the corners. It was about being competent in the corners and all three zones, which he wasn’t but now he’s closer

Young forwards like a Lysell don’t break into the league competent in all three zones. Not at 22 years old. You can’t wait for him to be that kind of player before putting him in the lineup or he’ll never get there. It’s a blind spot of the Bruins organization.

I don’t wholly disagree with you and if you look at my post history I’ve been wanting him up for awhile now, I thought he should have stayed after that one game

The Bruins are looking for another Patrice Bergeron, who could play in all 3 zones at age 18.

Good luck with that. They caught lightning in a bottle once and think they can do it again. :eyeroll:

As I've understood it (and I could be wrong!), his biggest 'flaw' has been not using his teammates as he should at times, not that he won't muck and grind along the boards. The Bruins org may well think he needs to be a more complete 200 foot player, but they always think that and it's been problematic in their development of certain types of prospects for some time now.

Yes the mantra that everyone has to be a 200 ft player and be Bergeron really is not fair to upcoming prospects. You take them for their strengths, build confidence and let them excel on the ice.
Too many past prospects have fallen into this Bruins trap.
Lysell and Merkilov are talents and need to be given every opportunity to succeed. Time to develop younger players and not play older AHL has bins.
