Prospect Info: Fabian Lysell

I'd be perfectly happy with Pavel Bure, attitude and all. That's getting way ahead though, Bure was one of the greatest players of a generation.
I would also

But Lysell is not at that level

The realistic comps I have seen

Ceiling - Nikolaj Ehlers/Jesper Bratt
Low ceiling - Tyler Johnson
Floor - Andreas Johnsson

Stylistically he reminds me of Matt Barzal. I know they play two different positions, but that's just the player he reminds me of. Both great skaters, like to carry the puck and make plays from the half-wall. I think Barzal would be a high-ceiling comp.

Kid is a terrific skater , knows where his teammates are on the ice and see's the ice really well. my biggest question for me is he ready physically ................lets hope so , would be a cap benefit ......

He needs to add some size. He even looks thin in the WJC tournament. I’d be surprised to see him in the NHL this year on any kind of permanent basis.

He does look thin...but so did Kessel when he first started in Boston and it worked out well.

Not sure it works here, but having him on a line with Trent would provide some protection.

I see what you mean....but yeah because Barzal plays center, I didn't make that comparison

Lysell is also a better forchecker/hounding Ds/backchecking .. for the puck or increase chance for opponents to make mistakes. Barzal is not as good/less committed.

but again....stylistically. The skating, puck handling, passing... ability to go end to end/zig zag through lanes/skate around the net and make passes. Both can do well

well said, Barzal is a terrific offensive talent but he`s also a guy who hardly gets mistaken as being engaged when it comes to being willing to get his nose a bit dirty, exact opposite of Lysell. I`ve said it before, Lysell so badly wants to win and do whatever it takes that he`ll need to do a bit of spot picking once he lines up vs a fellow pro who won`t hesitate to take a cheap shot at him, the kid literally is in the middle of any net scrum when I watched him play a number of times live this past year

It seems to me, with extremely limited viewing, that he plays on the perimeter. He will need to come more directly down the wing to get better angles. With his vision, skating and slight size, I am surprised no coach has tried him at center; I would have put him there very early.

as one who has watched him live many times, while he does create a ton from the perimeter , he is anything but a perimeter player, when I think of players who are referred to as that, I think of players who prefer avoiding contact or are unwilling to absorb contact to make a play, that is not Lysell, this guy has 0 hesitation going to the dirty areas when required

Funny, I see it diferantly as far as the perimeter comment. From what I have seen he plays with an edge to him regardless of the size of the defender.

Just a few quick links to show his desire to drive to the inside...

Evades D down low to get the puck to the point and then crashes the net with two/three defenders on top of him

Clearly, this one didn't work out, but he went middle to draw defenders. He is good stickhandling in tight and likes to play with the puck the defenders skates. The US D stifled him in that game. I am sure he was frustrated.

This is why I don't love the Barzal comparison.

I see Fiala. I see Bratt. Someone mentioned Brendan Gallagher...and one has to assume they mean his badger-like hunger for the puck and the tight areas of the rink.

I mentioned Gallagher during the season after watching him, smaller guy who will never shy away from a scrum with bigger players in it nor expect bigger teammates to fight his battles for him. He is going to draw a lot of penalties too with his feet, simply cuts and slashes with a purpose often leaving an opponent helpless.

What I`m hoping for this season

Strong Camp, gets more assimilated with the organization as a whole
Gets a bit more muscle on his frame (which it sounds like he has a bit already)
Plays lots in Providence, puts up some solid numbers
Shows willingness to compete in all 3 zones

The last one is the area of his game he`ll need to improve upon, while he`ll compete for a puck along the wall in his own zone, like to see a bit more assertiveness and identifying where he needs to be at all times in his own zone, this can be taught

Skates like Bure handles the puck like Barzal and plays with the jam like this guy. And I think the number is available as well.

Good hearing that he doesn't shy away from contact but to those who hope he makes the Bruins lineup this season, he can shy away from contact and 'get away with it' in the leagues he has played in. I've heard he's relatively thin? What happens when he gets trainwrecked by a Hatheway type of player in the NHL

Lol. That's where I was kind of going with that. Bruins instill no fear in the majority of teams when it comes to physicality. Throw a 5'10 172lb 19yo kid out there. Just asking for trouble against bigger teams.

After 1 period: SWE 1 - LAT 0

Lysell drew a late cross-check driving the net, then got a helper on the PP goal off a nice rush.

Locmelis has been quiet, but Latvia played a spirited period.
