But KK is 22, not 29...at worst KK is a minor overpay, at best a complete steal. With Tro at best it's a minor underpay, at worst it's an immovable anchor
Its also the lack of trade protection + buyout. Canes have until offseason 2026 in which koko's contract can be bought out for 1/3rd. In offseason 2025 they could buy him out for 800k over 10 years. This also means he’s tradeable if another team wants to be his 3rd 2nd chance. Point being he's moveable. It's not just AAV.
Idk. Trocheck was an okay 2c. He was passionate. But that passion also brought a certain meatheadedness to the team that contributed to the Canes high amount of penalties. More importantly, Trocheck doesn't play well through injury, we say that in his first month here, we saw it when covid forced convalescence turned into a return to form, and i dont think he was near as effective in 2021-22 so much as spending lots of time with Svechnikov and Necas and being the bumper/triggerman on pp1. He strikes me as a guy who will quickly decline in effectiveness because of nagging injuries- which, again, was already happening before covid- and once its accepted its better for him to sit out and recover than play at 50%, you'll be lucky to have him in the lineup rather than unlucky to have him out.
Otoh, if the team is blowing it up in 2025 then who cares about such a long term? This team can be schizo in switching between short and long term thinking.
