F Viggo Björck - IFK Täby HC J18, J18 Region (2026 Draft)

"Quietly" having the best U17 J20 season ever?

At this rate, is he likely to play for the professional team next year?

Yes. Destroying the league with his hockey IQ. Some of the things he does (especially the way he finds openings) is ridiculous.

and.

Yes.

(I wouldn't be surprised if he gets some pro games in the next couple of weeks either. Maybe especially during the World Juniors when Djurgården will have a couple of players on the other side of the pond)

Gonna be a hell of a 1-2 with him and Mckenna.

Then guys like Preston, Belchetz, Roobroeck, verhoeff, sterberg, Dagenais, Villeneuve, Valentini following.

Unreal talent at the top of the draft.

Man, Björck is one of my favorite talents in a long time, a long time ago a Swedish prospect excited me so much, but I doubt he competes with McKenna (because McKenna is freakishly good), I only see that happening if he grows to at least 5'11, plays the center position in the first team next year and do very well. That said, if none of this happens I still believe he will be a lock for the top 5.

after the horrible 2024 draft, we may have 2 top 10 picks in both 2025 and 2026. Frondell and Eklund 2025 and Björck and Stenberg 2026. Im not so worried yet about Björcks height, he's still 16 and his birthday is in march. And his brother is 6'0 so thats probably where he will end up to.

Yes, it's not a concern yet, but it's a yellow flag (his brother is 1.83 and his father is 1.87, I personally believe he will reach a maximum of 1.80, unfortunately). I only see him having a minimum chance of competing with McKenna if he has an insane season among adults and reaches at least his brother's height, otherwise he will be a top 10 pick, maybe top 3.

For those who have watched them both, do you prefer Bjorck or Stenberg at this point?

Also, is his brother Wilson worth a pick as an overager? He's putting up probably the best production in J20 Nationell History on the same team as Viggo.

The good news for Viggo is that he's as tall (or rather... Short) as Wilson was at his age.

I really like both, but I definitely think Stenberg is better right now. Björck is half a year younger, but Stenberg has had the sharper development curve, so take from that what you will. I have not watched Djurgårdens j20 for a couple of weeks, and Viggo has been absolutely eviscerating the league in terms of production, so maybe he's gotten even better without me seeing it yet.

Without going to in depth, Björck plays "smarter", more two-way, and plays center(as of now), and with his mind I don't see how he at worst bottoms out as a solid professional player, but even ignoring his size, I do think there are more steps for him to become a high-upside player than Stenberg. Stenberg has his faults, but as long as he can mature slightly there are just endless amounts of danger he generates offensively. I feel like it also depends on how Viggo grows and where he ends up positionally. If he becomes a winger, I don't think he has a high likelyhood of becoming the better player. If he stays in the middle even at the pros, he is so mature and intelligent that it his value might weigh up just because of how he participates all over the ice.

But there is so much runway, and right now I think the sky is the limit for both.

Also some physically immature guys that will suddenly become risers either alter this year but more likely next year.

Agree with most of this. I would put my money on Björck becoming the better player but it could go either way. Björck is just so good all over the ice and plays with very little ego, I just hope he doesn’t get molded into a shutdown/PK-role early in his career. Stenberg is more of a pure offensive player.

I don’t really see the hype with Björck, he’s putting up impressive numbers in J20, but watching him play it’s not like he stands out as much as you think he would.

The kid is 5’9 and I’m not sure he’ll grow much more as he has kind of stood still for a while now.

To me he’s like an improved version of his older brother Wilson Björck, he’s very smart of course, but I’m just not sure he’s skilled enough to compensate for his lack of size.

If he’s 5’9 he won’t be a center in the NHL.

Maybe he can be another Marchessault who knows, however I’m quite skeptical as to how he’ll project.

Yep, no high end talent like McKenna

It feels the same way with Mikey Berchild from the USA. Long viewed as the best American player born in 2008. And I don’t even disagree with that view, but when you’re 5’9 and you don’t have a Bedard shot or Quinn Hughes skating or Jack Hughes puck skills or Michkov goal scoring instincts it becomes very hard to continue excelling as the competition gets better and better.

The best case for these players is like a Marco Rossi or Gavin Brindley.

I don't get the hype of this player either. He just set up a record in J18 league last year, and set up a record in J20 league for his age group this year, meanwhile, finishing 2nd in league scoring. What might be the reason? Why the hype? Other than scoring points what does he do? He is small!

Meanwhile Wilson is like 6'0 so what is the point?

The interesting thing would be how many points he would have in a weaker team? Like Timrå or Malmö etc. Djurgården has been totally dominating and a lot of the players have statistics that are higher than they probably should be.

No one knows, but he played on a team where he had to earn his ice time competing with tougher competition than Frondell last year
