I'm not comfortable with the label "racist" being applied to any person based on either actions or beliefs they espoused as children.

The term "racist" and other kinds of "-ist" are very easy to use as a smear and can be quite essentializing in the way they label a person, and ultimately demotivate people from learning and working toward self-reflection and self-improvement. To put it another way, troubled children and young adults need good role models, not to be tauted, shamed, and punished.

Calling Connelly "racist" seems inflammatory to me. It implies that he is a virulent bigot and has no capacity for change. What is this based on? I'm guessing nothing and the poster who called him a racist is just engaging in a particularly toxic kind of virtue signaling.

There's 18 pages. There's a search function. Use it. I'm not going to do the work for you when I've already posted it.
I gave you a chance to showcase it nicely before opining. Maybe you knew something everyone didn't.

Now, I'm going to give my opinion. You are being very accusatory over something there is no true proof, let alone evidence, of racism. It is pretty disgusting to hijack this thread over his hockey calling him insults (something you apparently are deriding him for). It comes off tone-deaf, in the best possible interpretation.

Further, I think this faux-outrage only lends to Connelly's fandom. I think there are a lot of people who read a thread like this with an open mind, see someone crazily accuse him of being racist, not able to offer up any proof or evidence, and then feel he's being unfairly targeted.

You mean when he said a racial slur, the coach was interviewed and they suspended him and then when it was looked into again, they didn't contact the coach or the player that Connelly said the slur to and claimed there wasn't enough evidence but there was enough evidence to suspended him the first time. But when it was appealed, they somehow forgot to contact the coach of the player involved and the player?

Right, because none of that was shady even a tiny bit?

Multiple incidences since he was 11 where it's always someone else's fault.

Funny that Tri City Storm immediately jumped at signing him, they do have a type. Mitch Miller, Connelly...

You are only digging yourself a further hole. Here's what the article you link claims.

Some NHL people were also aware he had been accused of directing a racial slur at an opponent during a game in 2021, which he has denied. He was initially suspended after that allegation, though the suspension was not upheld, with the disciplinary committee for the California Amateur Hockey Association writing that the allegation could not be corroborated. Connelly told The Athletic he doesn’t use racial slurs.
Being accused of something doesn't mean it happened. In fact, the lack of evidence after an investigation suggests it probably didn't happen.

I think it is revealing to all who read this to compare your version of what the article claims with what it actually says. You see the slanting and wish casting something that isn't in the article as if it were the truth.

So you intentionally ignored this part?

Connelly attended the hearing, conducted via videoconference, as did his parents and Osei-Tutu, his adviser. Beebe and the player who alleged Connelly used the slur were not in attendance, according to the committee’s written decision. Beebe said in an interview he was not made aware that the hearing was taking place, and no one from CAHA alerted him that the allegation was under further review. The player who made the initial allegation was not contacted about the hearing, either, nor were his parents or the player’s adviser.

Interesting that when they spoke to the coach and the player, they suspended him. But when they did it behind their backs later, they didn't even speak to either of the other two or even let them know and then when asked?

CAHA president Tom Hancock declined to comment, citing CAHA’s policy not to discuss disciplinary matters involving minors. Sawchuk also declined to comment.
Convenient. They railroaded the poc to help Connelly is what that was. Pretty clear right there. Ignorantly thinking that isn't what happened doesn't change that it is quite literally what happened.

I was responding to your claim. You are now referring to something different.

And again, you are once again assuming a lot you can't necessarily assume because it allows you to buy into a narrative you've concocted of him that he must be a racist. He was suspended initially because players are suspended initially when these types of serious allegations are made. That's standard practice. That should not have one presume the truth of the allegations. The fact you can't acknowledge that shows people who read this discussion that you are unable to be objective about the facts. This is multiple times you've now tried to contort the allegations into more than they are and assume truth and assume certain presumptions that can't properly be presumed while trying to be in any way remotely objective.

I was responding to your claim. The thing you are quoting now is separate from the initial discussion.

And again, I'm not sure throwing out some random claim based on the contents of a hit piece against a minor helps your argument. You just want to throw salacious allegations at him, and assume the truth because it allows you to buy into a narrative you've concocted of him that he must be a racist.
The claim goes directly to that quote and you moving goal posts to keep defending a racist tells me I am done speaking to anyone that sympathizers with that type.

You mean "I didn't look up any incidents and feel like after the likes of racists in the NHL - DeAngelo, Manning, Binnington, Galchenyuk, Mitch Miller, Peters etc - I have a hard time believing this to be the case."

Link's were provided, again. You can ignore them, again, like others that want to make excuses for him.

The article outlines the racist and his behavior. If you want to ignore it, then ignore it.

If you're doubting Connelly's sincerity (about evolving as a person) then I totally get it. I feel the same about some of these kids who ride the gravy train to riches. But not all young people who internalize and act on prejudice remain that way. He'll have many eyes on him for sure.
