Ok then, imagine you’re a kid (stupidly influenced by your idols, as most are) growing in the next 5-7 years. In these years, as a hockey fan, a young hockey player established himself as a star in the league (playing for your favorite team at that); Trevor Connelly! Youve got his jersey, a few cards of his and even a signed puck!

At one point though, some info starts popping up on your X feed… Like that infamous picture of him making fun of probably the worst part of human history…

But with your undevelopped brain (and probable lack of knowledge on the holocaust), to see your idol making little of such event might make you think that this whole nazi thing might not be as bad as youve heard… Heck, Connelly certainly doesnt seem to care, right?

Now do this with thousand of kids.

Back to Mailloux, the girl gave him her consent to take the picture (absolutely stupid thing to do especially with a young, stupid athlete playing for a new team). Now, im pretty sure that Mailloux absolutely didnt want the identity of this girl to leak outside of the few members of his team with whom he shared it with, which means that some asshole in his team decided to share it to people outside their team. Now, thats a big f***ing asshole if you ask me and this guy should eat the dust as much as Mailloux.

As for the girl involved, as humiliating as it must have been, she simply was stupid to let him take this picture.
The leaps of logic made here are astonishing, did he not take the picture with his Jewish friend to mock the swastika first of all, second it was on snapchat which is PRIVATE and in what way was the picture supporting or promoting Nazis? And so kids just look at picture of a swastika and all of sudden are worshipping Hitler now? 😆 🤣 LOL

Which is ridiculous, from my understanding of the situation, him and his buddy who is Jewish took picture of swatistka as a JOKE, on a private app Snapchat..... Why would teams avoid him for a freaking joke, lord the entire world has lost their minds.

I agree to a certain extent but not sure how anyone could really be offended bc snapchat is private and it was a joke between friends, snapchat photos disappear after looking at them anyways, so not sure how this even got out.
That’s because, like I said in the post you tweeted, there’s more than the picture.

I won't touch the off ice stuff, but I'd agree he's a top on ice talent. Teams will need to do their homework. There's some additional play style concerns on top of that, still has junior habits, but the upside is very high.

He's a better talent than Perreault or Leonard were last year.

Based on what we know, he certainly seems to have tried to learn, mature, and grow from his missteps, and has actually invested the time to serve as well. Unless there are clear signs that it's disingenuous, I hope it doesn't affect his draft position. People make a lot of mistakes, especially young kids, but if he's learned from it and bettered himself, that's a positive. His apparent approach has been admirable compared to others like Miller, DeAngelo, etc.

His season has been excellent so far, building on a fantastic Hlinka. I see him as a top 10 talent at this point as well. His USHL team is average, too, so I hope he's available for the U18 Championship.

You’re going to see that getting closer to the draft, there is going to be a story from one of the major news outlets in Canada and everyone will scream bloody murder.

Maybe. But unless it's something new or revelatory, it shouldn't matter. And if it were either of those things, it'd be odd for any news organization to sit on new news.

It happened with Mitchell Miller post draft. I think most who followed Miller closely knew about the incident leading up to the draft, NHL teams sure did, but it wasn’t until after the draft he was patronized for it. It was really odd.

They did and it had already been reported on locally, just never made its way to the national news. That's not the atmosphere anymore. Connelly's stuff has already been widely reported. No doubt that news outlets are going to milk it more during the draft coverage but unless it's something new, I hope it doesn't have a wide effect.

Guarantee who ever selects him in the first round, is going to get lambasted for it by their local news outlets.

Unless the racial slur was captured on audio, he can just continue to deny that one and he can apologize for the photo, citing immaturity and say he was being an edgelord 16 year old and he's learned the error of his ways.

I don't think it'll hurt him too much. This isn't a Miller situation with a specific victim that remains very mad at him.

Why is Miller’s situation so much worse?
One mentally abused a kid for years, and the only time he showed any amount of "remorse" was when he was essentially forced to do so. The other posted a stupid picture, apologized not too long after. Connelly even took additional steps after his f*** up that were not needed or forced to learn from his ignorance. As for if he actually said a racial slur or not, it seems a rather gray area and the league even removed the record. Hes involved in a hockey inclusive group.

If you can't see the differences between the two situations then youre on your own.

(I know you already know the extents to both of these situations)

And Miller didn't just mentally abuse his victim.

You’re asking why a targeted harassment of a real life person is worse than posting a picture, regardless of how stupid that picture was?

You serious here?
Two can play that game.

Miller was 14. Connelly was 16. Miller was a bully to one person. Connelly’s actions are broadly offensive to a whole religious group.

I don’t think one is worse than the other, nor do I find either as bad as some people claim they are. I’m merely saying we should treat these situations as analogous.

There is no game. One is a real person that Miller bullied and one is a picture.

Kevin Hart took some flack for posting homophobic comments on social media many years ago. He would have taken much more flack if he had beaten up a gay person instead of making a post.

I am completely baffled that you think these are remotely similar.

You are picking and choosing what is deserving of more offense. That’s my problem with this type of argument.

Either both of their careers should be ruined or neither.

Otherwise, what’s stopping someone to say they take more personal offense to what Connelly did?

This becomes a slippery slope.

Hard part is the first round of the USHL Playoffs basically begins right when the U18 tournament begins and 12/16 make it. The Steel released Celebrini to the U18s and just played without him, but I wonder if that was a condition of his tender or something.

Yes, of course it’s a game.

Who are you to judge what someone else should find more offensive?

And you are attempting to minimize what Connelly did by calling it a picture. If you actually had a problem with what he did, you would understand the gravity of why it’s serious as opposed to calling it a picture.

I try to take the opposite route. My personal stated opinion is both did regrettable things that reflect poor judgment and they shouldn’t be held to it for the rest of their life. I don’t see the need to minimize or maximize what either did by picking winners and losers here.

Unfortunately for too many they may like Connelly better and think he’s better at hockey so his conduct is a lot better.
