Isn't it normal for young players to struggle a bit in their first couple of years and then figure it out? Even having a good rookie season and then hitting a sophomore slump is very common isn't it? Plus is context relevant here? It's hard to generate points when the team is not good and AZ was in the midst of a rebuild. I'm just not sure this is the concrete proof everyone is looking for. And that Kizenblat guy is a goof lol.

But I digress, sure maybe RT is just the worst offensive coach ever who reduces every players ability to generate points. I guess it's hard to argue with the results. Last season seemed not bad though. I find this coaching stuff really hard to dissect through a tv set when we're not privy to any of the actual coaching that's going on.

Are you suggesting the environment surrounding the Arizona State University Coyotes was not particularly conducive to fostering a healthy organization? Especially with those star-studded rosters?

I’m fine with management. Tocchet’s stuff is wearing thin. I get that this team probably isn’t good enough to win playing run and gun or anything like that, but his system seems to choke the life out of offensively minded players.

I personally think the system is getting more out of the players offensively than expected, especially in terms of transition and possession. They had far more chances and high danger chances than Dallas did last night. But there's nothing a coach can do if the players can't finish their chances.

No, that of course doesn't fit with the narrative so throw that data out.

Good point about the pond hockey. Sure our goalscoring is down but I'd rather be in hockey games and able to win enough to be in a playoff spot than that awful season under Boudreau. That was sickening, I couldn't even watch at the end. Teams have to play to their strengths. Almost all good teams start from the net and defence out.

My opinion on Tochett hasn't changed since the fall. Last season, I found it concerning how the team's offense seemed to continually be sacrificed in the name of the defense, and I think we saw how much this team struggled to create offense against Edmonton. And, to Tochett's credit, he identified this as an issue going into this season so I was willing to see if and how he was able to resolve it.

But then we had the Miller situation, and he played poorly and was traded, and then Boeser started to suck, and Pettersson continued to suck, and at this point, our forward group just kind of sucks from an offense standpoint and there isn't really any way to sugarcoat it. So, while I do have concerns regarding Tochett's coaching style, I don't thinks its overly fair to really criticize him much given the current personnel.

With all that said, of course I do think you'd see a spike in the offensive numbers of our forwards if Tochett was fired and a more offensive orientated coach was hired, but that isn't overly surprising nor does it suggest that our forward group as currently constructed is anything but poor offensively.

Tocchet's style works well for quickly turning around a shitty team where the players don't put in the effort. But it's not sustainable. The players lose their enjoyment and passion for the game and the fans lose interest in watching.
