That was my first thought as well.

That aside I think that Kelowna isn't going to have a very good team for that tournament.
Thought Kelowna was a strange pick to host the tournament. Cristall will be aged out and will be playing pro and Iginla could make Utah as a 19 year old

I will be very surprised if he makes the NHL after missing an entire season. Having major hip surgery is not a small thing. Hurts just to think about it.

I agree but Kelowna might be one of the weakest memorial cup hosts in recent memory and Medicine Hat is going to be a juggernaut.

Its been an ongoing issue - some Utah fans think its why he missed some time at their training camp,
I vigorously remember he seems have a shoulder injury during the playoffs and U18 run? But not sure the training camp one.

The Rockets are going to end up with a boatload of picks/prospects/young players after trading Cristall, Price, Stancl, Graham and Cicek.

Will then turn around and load up for the Memorial Cup after the season.

Their roster is going to look very different next year.

The Dub drafts 14 year olds how many of them will be ready for 26?

Also this huge transfer in and out that you are suggesting isn't a great way to build even a junior hockey team in under 2 seasons.

I'm obviously not saying they should use the picks, I'm suggesting they turn around and trade them this summer or early in the 2025/26 season for 19 and 20 year olds.

It'll be difficult to build a powerhouse but they should be able to turn the Rockets into a WHL contender that can potentially win in their own barn come the Memorial Cup.

I don't know about the business aspects, but it was an absolute lay-up for HC to give it Medicine Hat and they bungled it up. They would have McKenna at the Mem Cup, along with a stacked team with the Ruck twins.

And agreed with Kelowna. They don't have much to build after the big players are moved. And it's hard to build a contender from absolute scratch.
