For Habs, if Lindstrom and Iginla are available, who do they pick? I think Iginla.
If they are wanting a center they should pick Lindstrom, as Iginla is far more likely to play wing than center.
For Habs, if Lindstrom and Iginla are available, who do they pick? I think Iginla.
What's your point? You found a few players who had NHL careers from the WHL and were first round picks that he had better stats then.
At least half of those players were not worth top 10 picks in their drafts. No one claimed Iginla won't play in the NHL. Whether he's worthy of a top 10 pick with the season he had is very much up for debate, and the lack of having a big statistical season is part of that.
I feel like 6 is more than “a few”, and I was comparing him to WHL forwards selected in the top 10 in their age 17 season. I did skip some.
Unless I missed someone, there were a total of 17 WHL forwards drafted in the Top 10 (excluding 1OA) since 2009.
You can not like Iginla, but when you say “profile of a top 10 pick”, I assumed you were comparing him to WHL forwards drafted in the top 10 in the past.
So here’s all 17 of those forwards, and as a bonus, the 10 WHL forward taken between 11-20.

Top 10 yes but i would be very surprised if he goes top 5I've seen a lot of Iginla in the past year. I'm not scout, but i see a lot of scouts calling Tij out for he's "Lack of Effort" or "lack of Competitivness". I'm shoked everytime i hear those.
Seriously Tij Iginla is going top 5 maybe top 7. No way in hell scouts are actually putting him 16th at the end of the year.
He does have the IT factor, and the points aren't all of his game. He's awesome everywhere and he puts up points. Stop the Cap, Iginla going top 5 easy.
Typically, there has to be an actual point into doing a lot of research. There’s no actual point in all his graphics and research. Or if there is a point, he was making my point, not the other way around.
Rantanen went 10th in 2015. M. tkachuk went 6th in 2016. Both 3rd wingers taken. How often does the 3rd best winger prospect in a draft go top 10? Just curious
First of all - I dont have Iginla as my top ten. For the second - im not a biggest fan of WHL because of lack of structure and lack of physical game. But still because how productive Iginla is, especially in play off, how good his skills combo is - hands, shot, physical game - it makes him pretty good for being drafted as top ten. Especially if we will compare him with other players from other WHL drafts from top ten.Typically, there has to be an actual point into doing a lot of research. There’s a very mixed record whether in hindsight those players without top 10 stats deserved to go top 10. He didn’t exactly make the case that all the questionable top 10 picks from the WHL without top 10 numbers deserved it in hindsight.
HD cameras would have been enoughThat it is, that it is.
If only Flames had 1C way back when... they be the Cup winners
The 1998 olympics still had better tech than the NHL has in 2024.HD cameras would have been enough
If I’m the Flames I take him 2nd overall no hesitation.
People are underrating how valuable he will be to that franchise. Take him all day and even if he’s a 50 point player who plays the game the right way he will be a fan favourite and sell merch and tickets his whole career.
I don’t even think drafting him would really put my asses in the seats, draft whomever gives the team a better prospect tool.I'd prefer the Flames be competitive and ice a good team opposed to making the billionaire owner more money.
As a Flame fan there are like 5 guys I'd take over Tig if we got the 2nd overall.
To each their own. I live in Calgary and I know I’d pay a hell of a lot more attention if they drafted Tij. I dont look at any of the guys after Celebrini and say he’s going to be FOR SURE better than Iginla.I'd prefer the Flames be competitive and ice a good team opposed to making the billionaire owner more money.

Iginla is probably a top 10 player in this draft, but beside Demidov or Celebrini I don't see any player being in a class of their own between 3-12 OA, so the margins are thin.I don’t even think drafting him would really put my asses in the seats, draft whomever gives the team a better prospect tool.
Being competitive > a feel good story
I don't think there's any world in which you can argue Catton, Helenius, Buium, and Eiserman over Iginla. For those that like him as a top 5 or 10 player, which of these players do you have below him?
Celebrini
Demidov
Catton
Lindstrom
Levshunov
Yakemchuk
Dickinson
Silayev
Buium
Parekh
Helenius
Eiserman
