Kantserov with 3 assists today to bring him to 22 points in 22 games. My onhockey.tv stream was so glitchy it was unwatchable the first 2 periods but it was OK in the 3rd period - so I saw only the 3rd period. I saw Kantserov's primary assists on the game tying goal late in the 3rd and the OT winner. In both cases his quickness to retrieve the puck off the faceoff and put a pass right on the tape of the goal scorer was what made the play. Very nice.

Has another year left. But if he keeps this up, the Hawks will probably work with him to terminate the last year and get him over to North America. Same thing happened with Michkov last year.

That would be sweet. Michkov's situation was different though with the family tragedy of his dad dying and him being loaned out to a bottom feeder team (Sochi) - plus the SKA coach is an idiot. Kantserov's situation is more stable/normal - but hope the Hawks can find a way to pull it off.

I mentioned this in another post recently but I'm hoping the coach changes the top-6 around a little where Kantserov plays with Yurov (Minn 2022 1st round pick) as his center instead of Zernov who has been his center last season and so far this season. Zernov missed time due to injury too so maybe that's the reason - but he hasn't played as well as he did previously and it seems to me like he's pressing a bit and consequently scoring opportunities for Kantserov and the other winger (Mikhailis) are being missed. Yurov is playing better (IMO) and would enhance both Kantserov's and Mikhailis' scoring chances.

1 more year in the KHL is best for Kantserov. He's in a fantastic place for development. There's no need to rush anything.

Let him have a full season of being Magnita's 'go-to-guy' next year, then he'll hit the NHL running in 2026-27.

Nah, they aren't allowed to do that, it'd be a non-CBA benefit. Michkov would have had to pay it himself. But it's possible SKA was just willing to let him go without demanding the full amount and accepted some lesser number because they weren't using him. They also retain his KHL rights if he were to ever return at some later point. The exact details are not known. Very little info generally trickles over to N.A. Hockey Media on KHL happenings.

I wouldn't go so far to say it's absolute - I'd say it's very unlikely he comes over early. As much as I would like to see him playing with Bedard sooner than later - I agree the best thing in the long run is to let him play out his contract and join the Hawks for the 2026/27 season.

He is in a very good situation - he plays top line, top PP, and top PK for the reigning Gagarin Cup championship team. He plays disciplined in a disciplined system where the shifts are kept short and playing above the puck is required. Magnitka struggled a bit out of the gate when they had players out with injury (like their entire 1st line - Kantserov-Zernov-Silantyev) but now Kantserov and Zernov are back and they're playing better - they should be in the mix to defend their title. The point is he's in about the best situation a 2nd year 20 year old can be - he will be all that much more ready with the rest of this season and all of next season under his belt.

Honestly it's better for his development if he stays in the KHL for another year or two while the Hawks are still a tire fire. Watching them handle Korchinski is rough.

Patience has never been a virtue of mine so believe me I would love to see him in a Hawks lineup as soon as possible - but as I already said - he's in an ideal situation to be even more developed and ready to play NHL after spending the next year and a half playing for Magnitogorsk in the KHL. I wouldn't think that if he were playing for a bottom team that doesn't hold their players to a high standard - but that's not the case for the 2024 KHL champs.
