Would Fiala be a good comp for this guy?
I don't think so. Fiala is a pure offensive talent and in my opinion, a line driver. I say this a lot about him, but Amirov is more of a play supporter. He's a very good possession player whose passing and 2-way game are well above average, along with a nice shot and hands. Not the fastest skater but quite shifty.

A guy like Reilly Smith or Ondrej Palat would be a more accurate comparison. Not sexy names, but very effective players.

What's your definition of a line driver? The primary offensive player on a line?
Not necessarily. I consider any player that doesn't rely on his teammates to be productive an offensive line driver. Amirov projects to be more of a complementary winger (that's not a bad thing) whereas I think Fiala's a guy who can carry mediocre linemates offensively.

Thank you for your answer, I wasn't certain as I haven't watched Fiala closely enough.

We probably have different views regarding Amirov as I think he would fit your description of a line driver.

Imo, from my viewings, Amirov will be a player that carries the play for his line. He is very good at moving the puck up the ice or controlling the play in the offensive zone. Against players his age, he is very hard to get the puck from. His playmaking abilities are underrated as he controls the play in the offensive zone and spot passing lanes easily to feed his linemates great scoring opportunities. In that sense, I think he'll be an offensive contributor regardless of who he's playing with.

Just to be clear, I am a lot higher on Fiala than most. I don't think he's usually considered a line driver. Also, being a complementary winger isn't at all a bad thing. Players like Gabriel Landeskog are quality top-line players in the NHL despite not fitting my definition of a line driver.

When Fiala is on, he is a line driver. When he is off, he is also a line driver, but in the wrong direction.

Some of the descriptions of Amirov sounded like Fiala. Fiala is more quick than fast, with inventive edge work. Also is hard to knock off the puck, even though he isn't a big guy, and is a puck hound in the offensive end. Very creative passer, though sometimes that can lead to turnovers.

I think Amirov is a player who has average tools across the board. Not much he does that well, and not much he does poorly. In the last year, I've seen him show many different tools of the game in different settings, so I kept changing my mind about his skillset. But I think that was probably because there was nothing about his game that stood out that much, and everything can flash as a good tool, but it doesn't ever consistently stand out as such. I think he projects as a middle six winger who can do some of everything, but probably won't be more than a middle of the league player. He'll play, but won't be an impact guy. I'd say his draft range should be somewhere between 21-31.

Is going to be in the K-show full time this year or is he going to split time?

He literally reminds me of Nikita Kucherov. Of course odds are against him ever putting up points in the same stratosphere as Kuch, but he certainly has that "silent assassin" way of playing to him. He is silky smooth and very strategic in his energy use. Smart. He seems like a safe pick.

Yeah, the difference is Kucherov put the similar production in the MHL being 2 years younger...

Yeah, Panarin, Tarasenko, Kuznetsov, Kucherov, Zaitsev, Gusev...
I mean overall, not some top-talents. Also Tarasenko, Kuznetsov and Zaitsev almost didn't play in MHL, Panarin also had only one season there. As far as I remember Kuch and Gusev are the first generation of stars that are MHL products.

Come to of it although the league is not that old , I can’t think of prospects who have made the NHL that had spent a decent amount of time in the MHL other than the ones you named .

Buchnevich, Sorokin, Shestyorkin, Kaprizov, Samsonov, to name a few.

Great game for Rodion. 2 goals + assist. And quite suddenly he's getting a lot of TOI lately. 23:37 today o_O
