I never criticized the WHL.

I also gave you a seven-year draft sample of current NHL rookie participation. You’re the one making excuses.
They’re all the same level of hockey lol the WHL if anything is the worst league based off who has won the mem cup over the last 10 years. It’s like when Bedard was drafted suddenly the WHL is way better than the OHL and QMJHL just because a big name prospect played in there. Same with McDavid in the OHL and Crosby when he was in the QMJHL.

Why aren’t we doing normal comparisons like 5/10/15/20/25?? 6 or 7 fits your agenda better?

Anyways we’re high jacking the porter martone thread with irrelevant posts so I’ve said my piece. Have a great day.

Gunna look good with

Zegras, mctavish, carlsson , sennecke , gauthier and terry
Unpopular opinion but could definitely see Anaheim taking Schaefer if they are in the top 3.

Gotta say Hagens first centre and probably player off the board. Martone first winger with a small chance at that first spot and Schaefer first d man off the board- just like with the other 2 there’s no clear cut winner yet in November lol and it all depends on what a team needs most.

Misa although he is having a great season I don’t see him knocking off Hagens or Schaefer- martone maybe.

Maybe, tho lhd we’re pretty much set on…. If we end up 5-10 we’re definitely looking hard at some RHD.

The draft doesn't guarantee NHL talent, and I'm talking about the weakening of the OHL, not the WHL. The OHL is being scrutinized.

As of today and according to the official NHL site, there are 54 rookies drafted between 2018 and 2024 who have appeared in one or more games this season. Here is a breakdown of the development sources of each prospect:

USHL: 17
OHL: 9
SWE: 7
WHL: 7
QMJHL: 5
Russia: 4
Finland: 4
Czech Rep.: 1

I already stated earlier that the majority of top rookie scorers come from the USHL/NCAA. So NHL teams are promoting more NCAA-trained kids than OHL kids, and the NCAA-trained kids are outproducing the OHL kids.

Keep in mind that two of the OHL kids -- Luchanko and Ritchie -- are no longer in the NHL for the time being.

I'd love to see you put a pro-OHL spin on this one.
Not going to argue these numbers....but it will be interesting how they look in the next 5 years after the USHL isn't the sole major junior league that can feed into the NCAA.

Martone ranked #1 by Pronman over Hagens in his newest rankings.

I mean I like Martone and all but if anyone is going to challenge Hagens for number one it's Misa, who he has ranked 4th (though Schaefer is a dark horse).

We can have this conversation in February when more hockey will have been played and more patterns established.

Pronman has never been a fan of Hagens. He was talking up Frondell as 1OA right before the U18's, and then Hagens set the tournament points record. And then he shut up for one ranking. Puts him at 1OA. And then the next one he's back to finding a player he likes more than Hagens with no explanation for why. Obvious he's not a fan of Hagens.

How though, Hagens is clearly superior as we stand right at this moment; not a gm in the league would draft otherwise. You could even argue Schaefer is above Martone. I love Martone’s unique game but he he’s clearly not ahead of Schaefer imo who could possibly challenge for #1

It’s crazy Schaefer doesn’t get more talk, he’s the most clear #1 modern day dman prospect I’ve seen in 5-6 years. Whoever “drops” is going to f***ing win and it’s crazy people don’t realize it. Someone’s going to lose to win, big time. Martone has a unique skillset that if he can put it together it’s realistically almost impossible to acquire.

i find Martone has a similar style to Slaf - he's definately a top 3 (especially to a team that has their Cs..)

“Last season, nearly 50 per cent of all players on active NHL rosters at the start of the campaign hailed from CHL franchises. The number of NHL players who had gone through NCAA programs was 33 per cent.”

How are you going to dismiss nearly half the players in the NHL just to push an agenda?

Let’s look at some of the best players of all time.

Gretzky (OHL)
Orr (OHL)
Lemieux (QMJHL)
Crosby (QMJHL)
Bossy (QMJHL)
McDavid (OHL)
Lafleur (QMJHL)
B Hull (OHL)
Roy (QMJHL)
Bourque (QMJHL)
Coffey (OHL)
Brodeur (QMJHL)
Yzerman (OHL)
Sakic (WHL)

Hell let’s look at one of if not the best American players of all time- Patrick Kane.

06-07
undefined flag
London Knights
OHL586283145

Oh what do you know- he played in the OHL and got drafted first overall from there.

Let’s stop saying the OHL and CHL sucks lmao you lose the little credibility you have with your blog when you say that.

Martone is great. He won’t be an all time talent I don’t think like the rest of these guys but if he is like a Matthew tkachuk- a perennial all star and a winner maybe, just maybe martone won’t be as horrible as you’re making him out to be. We can uplift players without bringing others down. You should learn how to do that you may get more views on your blog. Nobody’s saying he’s better than Hagens- only that he is making it interesting along with the other 2 OHL guys where for the longest time people treated as Hagens Tier 1, everybody else tier 3.

This year the mock draft shows 6 CHL players going in the top 10 according to tankathon.com. 16 players (half of the first round) going just in the first.

8 Americans in the first round. 2 in the top 10. Also of those American players Will Moore may show up to Barrie here this year or next and there is also rumours of Muskegon and Youngstown potentially joining the OHL in the near future. (So you’d be losing Adam Benak and Luka Radiojevic from that list)

CHL has always been the best and they will continue being the best at producing NHL talent.

Facts are the facts
No dog in this fight but times are changing brother , probably for the better

The CHL churns out a majority of players no doubt, but that is bc they/we have a country of parents willing to go into debt to pay for their kids' AAA hockey at the minor level..
It's a slippery slope bc clearly going to "Boston University" or other NCAA schools is a way better pathway for the athlete's overall future. (CDN unis dont offer scholarships).. but you have to commit to the OHL by 16 (15 ex status), and once you do so, you are burning NCAA playing years..

Yes the CHL produces more, but I hardly call it a "better" route.. it has a monopoly..

That’s just because he was out in the beginning of the year. Schaefer definitely continues to impress. I’m praying the Penguins get a top 4 pick this year. The drop off seems pretty big after that.

The game against Erie was billed as a Martone-Schaefer bout but it turns out Malcolm Spence was the best forward from either team. Not that Martone didn't have a solid outing -- he had one assist on the PP but made more than a half-dozen impressive setups. Any concerns or issues were nonexistent for two full periods until the third, when he was late in coverage to lead to one goal and he then turned the puck over trying to carry it behind his own net that led to another. Sloppy, back-and-forth game overall for both teams but Martone was matched against Schaefer for almost the whole game and still used patience and vision to create chances. The injuries are killing Brampton and Ivankovic is under a barrage almost every start.
