Only stat watching, but damn is he putting up some points in his draft year. Of he keeps it up he might have more the. 150 points. Does he also pass the eye test?

With flying colors.

Martone is just so smart, skilled, poised, and effective on the ice that it isn't fair for his OHL competition so far.

Martone is also extremely sound technically as far as puck-handling and puck-protection skills go so that, combined with his imposing frame and strength, makes Martone EXTREMELY hard to contain whether he has the puck or not, along the boards or in front of the net.

Martone's defensive game is unimpressive compared to other facets of his game, and how scarily efficient he is off-puck in the offensive zone.

But his physical and mental gifts, his dedication to improving his game, his attitude, and the progression he's shown throughout this year and last make him somewhat of a unicorn and arguably the best prospect in this year's draft (I've said it before, but he'd be #1 in my opinion).

Martone was "absolute fire" at the Ivan-Hlinka last year alongside McKenna for Canada.

And I'd say he's been even better this year in the OHL than he was in that tournament, which is saying something if you watched that tournament in its entirety.

Anyhow, that's it from me. Have a good evening and cheers.

He’s going to give Hagens a run for top spot. He’s so much bigger and putting up huge numbers

I know the players are different but seeing so many people saying that size might be the reason Martone goes 1st overall, reminds me of the Kakko/Hughes debates. I think people were saying Kakko could go #1 as well due to size.

Kakko had a very impressive draft year in Finland playign agasint men and also had a good WHC for a draaft year guy.

Part of his "problem" is that I think he was rushed to the NHL too quickly and stopped developing.

All that being said Martone looks really really good and I can see why some teams might end up having him #1 at the draft table.

I do wonder when one of the 9 drafts lists ranking on elite prospects takes him to #1 over Hagens though if that even happens.

It’s not about Martinez’s size alone and I hope that doesn’t become the narrative. It’s about his utilization of his size in combination with his skill and hockey sense. He is an extremely difficult type of player to acquire.

James Hagens is also a difficult type of player to acquire. Hagens is extremely smart, plays a great two-way game, and is an excellent playmaker. He has elite hockey sense in combination with great mobility.

Both players provide something different.
