Robertson to join Leafs once return to play camps start...

I hope they don't play him. Jumping into the playoffs at 18 from the OHL would be crazy pressure.

“Not to be really self-absorbed, but I think I’m one of the only (OHL players) that will talk about it like it’s a business,” he said.

“Practice is a business for me. Working out is a business for me. Sleeping is a business for me. Everything I do is for a reason,” said Robertson.

“Some guys come into this league and have a good time,” said Robertson. “But I’m here as a temporary stop. This is just the car to get me to the NHL. Let’s put it that way.”

“My second year, I had the pressure of the draft and the combine and interviews. Whereas in my third season, I know where I am. And I know that I’m already drafted and signed. So I’m not saying I’ve got nothing to lose, but I can go out there and do my thing and be confident,” said Robertson.

He again references how “superior” his mental state was compared to a year earlier.

“People don’t see that,” said Robertson.

I expect him to play whenever the league resumes. He's just too good already. Forget the age and draft position, his performance this year makes it obvious he's one of the teams 12 best forwards right now. The Leafs can't afford to ice anything but their most talented roster, they're trying to win. Maybe if Johnsson was healthy it would be tougher to find a spot for him, but I don't see why you would dress someone like Gauthier over Robertson at this point.

That's what I like to see

One thing that makes him such an interesting prospect to me-

Not only did he make the cutoff for the 2019 draft by a mere 5 days, making him one of the youngest players in the class- he was actually born 3 months premature.

In a way, he’s actually months younger than guys in the 2020 draft class like Lafreniere and Rossi even though he was drafted in 2019. Bit crazy to think about.

I really like this kid. Great motor and tenacity. But really question his offensive potential at the next level. I really just don’t see him as a top line guy. Something about him makes me think he will end up being a third line energy guy. But regardless I’m happy for him, he will carve out a nice career.

It's the fact opposite.

No expectations on an 18yr old kid in the big time. He has nothing to lose and can play with total freedom.

No, you think if the leafs are in OT and he has a terrible turnover that leads to a goal. That wouldn’t sit on him for sometime? That fans wouldn’t blame him for the loss??

There may be no pressure in the, “oh he didn’t get a point all series, no biggie kinda way” but this could still backfire.

I don't think he'd be sat on HF Boards reading our views bout the people criticising him. But receiving criticism is part of the game, so do you shield these players until they're 25+ and have the maturity to deal with it?

Whoever made that kind of mistake, 18 or 38 it has the potential to eat them up anyway. The key is, I don't think the pressure would hold him back from going out on the ice and impacting a game. That's why Sports across the board is becoming a young mans game, kids don't fear failure, they embrace pressure and the opportunity to do something big, without letting the consequences affect them.

I think he'd be just fine if he gets a shot.

So really we should be comparing him to 2020 prospects?

Its huge pressure. You're playing an NHL playoff game, not a meaningless regular season game. Every possession and decision counts.

It must just depend on the individual. Some will thrive in the opportunity to play without fear. I guess others would let it swallow them up.

We're Leafs fans. We're used to failures and collapses. And, to be fair, we've been extremely patient the past few years with young players.

Yep, and I could hurt myself while cooking breakfast, and you could fail at the next big test that comes your way, etc. Life goes on.

I see this more of a McAvoy situation - if he's good enough, play him, and live with his mistakes.

In my mind, he's good enough to not only play, but impact play positively. I think he will be out there, a lot.

This is interesting but now you have created the next draft wave of insanity where birth weight and overdue/underdue is going to be claimed soo important by "experts" around these parts.

Haha, probably.

For real though, I wouldn’t have even pointed it out were it not such an extreme case. Being born that premature has a survival rate of less than a coin flip, and the odds are even worse that they don’t have some form of developmental or physical disorder even if they do.

He really beat some ridiculous odds to even make it this far.

I find it more interesting that he was born on 9/11/01, especially with him being American.

That goes both ways...would you have a 5 year old boiling hot water on the stove? No, because he isn't ready to do that, but a more mature person its not big deal.
