  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

.3 of a year average of age difference when comparing 2 leagues with thousands of players between them is literally just noise. It's like saying the two leagues are exactly the same age.

Secondly, using the echl as evedince of "pro" career is a joke. It's a glorified beer league. If you're playing in that league your either young enough to hope to one day play in a real pro league, or hockey is basically a hobby for you. At that point you probably should of went to culinary or trucking school.

Thirdly, virtually all the players that do go on to play in the Ahl or Nhl from the Ushl don't go straight to pro hockey. They go to the Ncaa and then go pro. Obviously, Chlers don't have an intermediate college step. They go straight from the Ohl to the Ahl or Nhl. The implications of that difference should be so obvious as to not need further explaining.
Again though, you basically asserted the OHL is in another galaxy. I'm not sure how you've arrived at that.

I have no idea about the mhl, so you're guess is better than mine. That said, I wouldn't put any stock whatsoever in wins and losses at the U17 Challenge. If Canada really cared about placement at that tournament they wouldn't send 2 teams obviously. Right?
It's mostly just an extended evaluation camp for Canada.

OHL is just one of three CHL leagues, isn't it? So if two CHL teams can't beat other leagues, why do you think 1/3 of the CHL can?

All I know is that the CHL wiped the ice with the USNDP. Absolute domination.
You mean the CHL all star team vs the really weak NTDP class? Sure, they got worked. But seems like two years later the US prospects seem to catch up based on recent WJCs... And now the depth at the senior level is showing, too...

As to the question of how the CHL guys will do in the NCAA, they'll be fine. The rich get richer. So the guys that go to the top NCAA teams will obviously have a higher likelihood of succeeding over a 2-4 year career in the NCAA. But in general, because they are hand picked at 20/21 years old from the CHL, most of them will fit in just fine.

Canada initially had 5 teams in the U17 challenge, but reduced this to 3 teams starting in 2014. In the last two U17 tournaments, they entered 2 teams each time and won both.

Yeah, but with no Russians, and as far as I undertand Americans don't usually send their best kids to the tournament.

There was a brief period when Misa was listed as being the best prospect in this draft. Then Hagens took over and now Schaefer is there too.

Even though I would still lean towards Schaefer, I can definitely see Misa going #1. He's a dynamic, electric talent that has dominated this season.

The Americans send the u17 team you're thinking of ivan hlinka. Also you really want to start discrediting every international tournament in which the russians don't participate because they also didn't participate in the world jrs u20.

Well, Russians didn't win a lot of WJCs before 2022, it's different for U17 World Challenge. And we're talking about OHL vs other junior leagues...

Yeah, you keep moving the goalposts. Russia (after the Soviet era) has won 4 golds and 10 silvers at the WJC, and 5 golds and 2 silvers at the U17. I know what’s being discussed, but it’s hard to take your opinion seriously when you can’t even be bothered to verify your information before you post it.

I know Team Russia won 2 last U17 it participated in. I know Russian MHLers won tons of superseries games vs CHLers, and it's U20 games. It looks like you're a little bit biased...

One thing you'll notice with his goals is that there is a good chunk of them where Misa isn't more than 10 feet out from the goalie. Yes he has a great shot, but he's also comfortable going to the net to tip a puck or jam home a rebound.

Lost in this thread, Misa the third guy in 25 years to have 50 in 50 during his draft season. The other two guys were in their 18 year old season. The other two guys have also had incredible NHL careers.

Misa's a heck of a consolation prize for the team that misses out on Schaefer.

He will be the prohibitive favorite 1OA if he continues at this rate through the rest of the season and through the playoffs.

The other two were also 1st overall picks. Considering Schaefer has like 15 games played, Misa might end up surpassing him between now and June.
