Its a hard league for a draft eligible, he wasn't the only one who had some troubles NoDak played well.

The thing I like was his compete, and his vision. Every puck was a battle that night but if he turns the puck over he knows his options immediately & moves it quick. We've seen the shot (and I agree he wasn't able to get many looks in the game) but his playmaking is still a threat when the shooting opportunities + open ice aren't there.

He's a complete package offensively & once he gets stronger he's going to be really good.
No but NoDak was a good measuring stick and I would say Celebrini was 'just' good. It's not meant to be a huge knock. It was two good teams, big boy hockey, and space was tight. And again, I thought he played well, but I think his footspeed is not quite at the level to allow him to completely take over a game in that situation.

I agree with your post though and agree he's good at everything. His hockey sense is very good. His compete is very good. He's good defensively. It's clear his shot is good and he can finish. His speed is good, certainly above average for NHL, but if he had an extra step.. he'd be a generational type of prospect. As is today, I think he's more of the Pettersson/Point tier. Hardly an insult and I think anyone would be more than happy to add that to their team.

I watched both games against UND after watching both of his games against both UMASS and ND.

I love the player. Playmaking, hands, shot, good skater. He understands where to be on the ice. He works his f***ing tail off out there. Like Zach Parise hard. He battles. I'm just wondering if he is like a next level hockey prospect or just really good.

I think Pettersson level is a pretty good call.

Parise was my second-favourite player in the league for a wild, after only Crosby. I like the comparison and would be thrilled if Celebrini reached that level - Parise was a very underappreciated star in his prime.

I have his ceiling as higher than Parise just comparing work ethic. Obviously Parise was an underrated player in his prime and wouldn’t be a bad result for Macklin, but I think he has more tools than Parise did.

The player he reminds me of a little bit is Mika Zibanejad. Shot his best asset, A- (but not like A or A+) skater, good defensive player that deserves more recognition for that part of his game. Has very high level playmaking, but not elite. Zibanejad is a little taller (2 inches).

Another would be Seguin. I say some of that. I also see some Hischier, but those last two only parts (shot/skating of Seguin, skating/sense/defensive game of Hischier).

I’ve liked the Seguin comparison for awhile. Similar offensive toolkits though Seguin was more dynamic as opposed to Celebrini seeming a bit more cerebral. Celebrini’s 200 foot game is much more refined than Seguin’s though

A Zibanejad that doesnt shy away from the dirty areas. I can see that

Missed last game, and he's wearing a non-contact jersey in practice. Hopefully he's not out too long, he took this hit in the last game he played:

USA Hockey have too be proud of their track record for developing players since 2015 - Jack Eichel, Auston Matthew's, the Tkachuk's, All 3 Hughes brothers, Beniers, Cooley, Fantilly, and now Macklin Celebrini and Cole Yserman... the future looks so bright

Look who's back!!! First Fantilli, now Celebrini.

Definitely not at this point. He’s looking like a great 1 OA pick though. I think maybe more in the Carlsson/Fantilli tier.
He is undoubtedly a much better prospect than Fantilli in my opinion. He has outperformed him at virtually every level despite being almost a full year younger. He can think the game a lot better than him as well, which is a big reason I wasn’t high on Fantilli .

I’m not sure about “much better”. I’d personally rank him above Fantilli too, but I see him in that same tier.

I think he looks like he has a chance to be pretty special but I wouldn’t say he’s a can’t miss type prospect like Bedard. Probably like a Lafreniere/Hughes level prospect. I think he’s a better skater than Laf though and his production at a much higher level than the Q is encouraging. Who knows about Laf either; I think the rangers stunted his growth quite a bit.

Two very good comparables for Celebrini are Seguin and Mika. The quick thinking and processing time come too easily for Celebrini at this level. I just watched the UML game and I thought to myself that he looks like a 2023-24 Zibanejad if Mika had to play in the AHL on a rehab assignment. He is a complete player and the BU announcers talk about him like Eichel and Zegras and Keller — already the star forward on the team. The passes he made to Tuch and then Hutson were insanely pro-level.

He’d be above a 2 P/G average if he played in the CHL

Bold statement considering he's at 2ppg on the NCAA lol. He'll cool off, but agree that he'd be shredding the CHL. Just look at what he did to the USHL as a 16 year old.

A modern and more explosive Toews is closest I can reasonably think of for “recent” players, and Toews was a hell of a player as a freshman. This player is a bit of a unicorn to me, I am unabashedly enamored with his game.
