If he ends up with the Oilers or Blackhawks I'm going to vomit.
Or the Habs, Rangers, Devils, etc. All these teams that were given 1st OA shouldnt get another one in such a short time period.

This kid would go #2 in last years draft. I'm already accepting the Hawks won't win back to back lotteries. I kind of hope San Jose gets him because they truly deserve a franchise player.

Agree id like to see San Jose get him.

I see a lot of Lafreniere in his game, though I like Celebrini's intensity and pace much more.

No way does he go ahead of Carlsson or Fantilli.

You were insanely high on Cooley and seemed to hold him at least the equal of Fantilli, but now that Celebrini in his draft season is slaughtering Cooley’s D+1 performance with superior two-way play as the cherry on top, he’s a level below?

I can't really describe WHY I think this, but sometimes when watching Macklin his game just feels less projectable than Fantilli did, even though he is doing essentially what Fantilli did in both the USHL and the NCAA while being much younger.

And Cooley is 2nd in rookie scoring and has been excellent with the Coyotes. Was I wrong to be high on him?

It's been 13 games lol @ slaughtering.

In those 13 games Celebrini has 22 points (1.69 ppg) vs Cooley's 60 points in 39gp (1.54 ppg). Cooley was an elite 2 way player, finishing the season with a ridiculous +38. Beyond that, both Cooley and Fantilli are much better skaters, which is why they've transitioned so well to the NHL.

It's his skating and athleticism. Fantilli was very clearly already an NHL player in college.

He’s 100% in a conversation with Leo and Fantilli for #2 last year. I agree that the skill and frame of the two guys is more appealing than what Celebrini brings, but it’s hard to ignore what Celebrini is doing at 17 years old in college hockey.

There's no way Celebrini is more dynamic than Fantill. It's not even close, c'mon.
Hmm, I disagree with you on this and the Lafrenierre comparison quite strongly. I think Celebrini’s explosiveness in small space plays is remarkable, I could probably watch more Fantilli, but to say it’s not even close in Fantill’s favor would be a major stretch from what I have seen.

Nobody deserves it more than the Habs. One player has hit 70 pts in the last decade (with no one pacing for that mark yet again this season). And one PPG season in the last 25 years.
San Jose had Jumbo Joe all these years.

I had Fantilli 4th oa on my board last year. He plays like a 4th line grinder with the skillset of a top 6 player. I'm still backing that claim. Fantilli's vision and playmaking were pretty average for a player that torched NCAA. He is very physically mature for his age and I think that is why he has been so successful

Bedard and celebrini down the middle would be sick

Kind of similar to how Pittsburgh transitioned from a period led by Mario and Jagr to Crosby and Malkin. Chicago would go from Kane + Toews up front with two new star forwards. I'd prefer to see him end up in Columbus or even Minnesota though. Columbus hasn't really ever had that kind of young talented depth throughout their lineup and Minnesotan's have been patiently waiting forever for a top line center.

I see a lot of Lafreniere in his game
Hein? At his best in Rimouski Lafrenière was good at protecting the puck and utilizing his body strength to create offense in tight spaces below the dots and he wasn’t that dangerous in transition. Celebrini can absolutely fly in transition and is best at utilizing his speed to back defenders up to create lanes to either find a pass or shoot; he doesn’t create a great deal in the dirty areas like Lafrenière, and is more like a MacKinnon type attacker in transition that uses his speed to open everything up.

Not to mention they don’t even play the same position

Lafreniere's skating was heralded as very good coming out of junior, just like Celebrini. Celebrini is a more aggressive skater though, for sure, and is more dynamic. I like the way he attacks defenders, but I think people forget how dangerous Lafreniere was 1-1 in the Q.
