Although it's early, I think Bedard is obviously in the same tier of McDavid and will be a #1 player in the league at some point and probably for a long time, perhaps Hughes will have his moment as being the #1 player since McDavid is 4 years older, but even then McDavid may hang on long enough that #1 player goes from McDavid to Bedard one day. Ekblad is an elite defenseman but he's not a franchise megastar like Makar. Ekblad seems to be sort of inconsistent in his play from what Panthers fans have said some years about him. Celebrini seems to have a ceiling more on franchise level as opposed to elite, like MacKinnon, Hughes, Matthews, Makar, guys who can contend for number 2 player in the world. Maybe it all goes wrong, but I think I take Bedard/Celebrini over McDavid/Ekblad fairly easily just due to Bedard being generational and Celebrini being a franchise talent. It's been a long while since 2014, and I assume Ekblad was touted as a franchise talent back then, but ended up just being elite.Ontario obviously still crushes BC when it comes to prospects (makes sense given population and much colder winters), but it’s a neat run for Vancouver. I’m not actually sure the last time any province had the first overall two years in a row?
Looks like not since 2014/2015 when it was McDavid and then Ekblad from Ontario. Interesting! I wonder if Quebec or Alberta have ever had two in a row.
Random side question: would you take McDavid/Ekblad or Bedard/Celebrini? Waaaay too early to say of course.
There’s not a great one. I think the best is probably Seguin. What’s an accurate player comparable?
Having himself another game tonight, wow is he impactful.
Ontario had 3 in a row from Stamkos, Tavares and Hall (although Hall was born in Alberta but moved to Kingston at like 13). The GTA having Stamkos/Tavares is the last time I remember it being two from the same city/municipal area.Ontario obviously still crushes BC when it comes to prospects (makes sense given population and much colder winters), but it’s a neat run for Vancouver. He looks like a more robust Jack Hughes. What’s an accurate player comparable?
Hagens is more of a Jack Hughes. Celebrini isn’t the skater Hughes is, doesn’t have the same pure skill level, but it Celebrini’s goal scoring (shit and instincts) are way better at the same age. I personally don’t think Celebrini is on the level of Jack Hughes as a prospect though. He looks like a more robust Jack Hughes.
A more dynamic Jonathan Toews.....a complete 200 foot player who will also net you 90+ points a year. What’s an accurate player comparable?
just happy Canada is churning out top elite talent again. Hopefully they can develop a good goalie soon.back to back drafts

I don’t know that I disagree with that typically but I’ll bet Celebrini might be an outlier. And I’m not even a huge Celebrini guy.I just hope he opts to go back to BU next year. At his young age, one and done NCAA career is not a good development strategy.
He's gonna dominate the NHL next year. It's all he's ever done, despite nobody ever believing he'd do it. I mean I've read this thread from the beginning the other day, Celebrini is probably the least hyped superstar in recent memory. No one can really understand how he puts up all those points without any stand out skills, but he never stops doing so, and he works his ass off every game.I just hope he opts to go back to BU next year. I feel like the hype will start growing after the WJC, where I expect him to be a top player for Canada. He's gonna dominate the NHL next year. A few reasons for this perhaps being that he comes the year after perhaps the most hyped prospect ever. In addition, played in a league that is somewhat obscure to the main hockey media in Canada and didn’t make Canada WJC in his d-1 like other top end players havethe least hyped superstar in recent memory
Yeah, kinda like Matthews. Incredible performances in his D-1 and draft years, every tool you could want, but took a non-traditional path, and there was some prospect hype fatigue after McDavid the year before, so he didn’t get hyped as highly as you’d expect.A few reasons for this perhaps being that he comes the year after perhaps the most hyped prospect ever.
