Yes, Montreal want to take him out of the environment he's thriving in to help their tank.
His contract is up in May...doesn't hurt to try and get him in early. Not like he's suiting up for Buffalo and if the Habs are trading any of their vet forwards, he'll get ice time.

I respect the meme-game, at least.

But, yes. Most ridiculously overrated prospect outside of the NHL because he's a Montreal draft pick, resulting in a bright spotlight and media attention, and there is a subconscious desperation to soothe the ache of passing over the superior Michkov.

Edit: Which, as I've stated, doesn't mean he's going to be a bust or anything. He'll prove a perfectly fine, one dimensional offensive winger who, in the modern NHL, will be a low-end first line player. That's fine value to acquire at fifth overall.
Has anyone ever told you that you’re an F’ing idiot. Probably.

You can immediately tell who's looking at Demidov's games and who's just stat-watching in this thread. Also, the "Montreal Canadiens prospect" debuff is real on this board.

Anyhow, what matters is how Demidov's looked at the KHL level and if/in what potential way his tools would translate to the NHL.

And the simple fact of the matter is that Demidov has been VERY good for SKA this year in limited minutes, and that quite a few of his offensive tools project as "elite" even by NHL standards.

The rest just doesn't matter.
